In today’s reveal, Cliff Bleszinksi and Bosskey Studios announced that Project Bluestreak’s official name is Lawbreakers. It will mark Cliff’s return to the FPS genre after retiring from Gears of War and take place on a futuristic planet post a lunar disaster.
The term used during the lead up to the reveal, The Shattering, actually refers to the moon exploding and shattering in half after a failed experiment. The result saw natural disasters and gravity flipped upside down causing havoc among the population. The title Lawbreakers combines both the police, the Law, and the gangs, the law breakers, into one title. Both will battle each other as the police attempt to contain the breakers from trying to gain control of the disaster torn planet.
Lawbreakers will feature 5vs5 matchmaking in an FPS environment using both male and female characters. It will be a free to play game and no further information was given regarding micro transactions and upgrades. As far as game play goes, it will make use of the moon’s lopsided gravity mechanics as well. Cliff noted during the stream that if you happen to be in a low gravity area and fire your gun, the end result may see the bullets fly in an unintended path.
Also noted was the ground, on at least some maps, will not want to be touched. Lawbreakers is meant to be a fast paced, vertical shooter utilizing jet packs and other boosts in order to keep your character in the air and in the fight. A comparison was made indicating the ground would be like lava on some maps according to Cliff. .
The footage shown was a cinematic reveal only with no gameplay, but there was mention of “possibly” getting some footage soon in a “wink, wink. Nudge, nudge” tone of voice. More information was promised to come soon amd a 2016 release window was provided. Lawbreakers is still a PC only title for now and we’ll update you with any further information as it’s revealed.
