Star Wars Battlefront 3, once just a fan’s dream may be about to get a sort of official release.
Frontwire Studios, once just a mod-team now a full-fledged developer, have developed their own version of the game and are preparing to release it for free on Steam. True to the company’s route the upcoming started as a mod itself.
Galaxy in Turmoil, as it is known, started out as a CryEngine mod from a group of dedicated fans. But now with the help of Unreal Engine 3 it is a fully-fledged game and the fans are a 50 strong company.
The company was initially sceptical of a Steam release due to potential licensing issues. However this proved to not be an issue, and a recent post on Frontwire’s blog announced they had reached an agreement with Valve to distribute the game.
No release date has yet been revealed, but this announcement should keep the fans sated for a while. This is not only the game in development by the studio, they are also working on a mobile game and as-yet-unannounced triple A title so expect to hear from this newest developer soon.
