Windows Insiders were given a special treat late on the afternoon of January 12. A second build of Windows 10 for the Fast Ring members of the Windows Insiders Program. A second build in a single week isn’t standard, but no Insider will object once they see that Game Mode has finally made its way into the latest build.
As we previously reported, a .dll file was spotted a while ago. Since then, we’ve learned that there were Registry Keys for the upcoming feature as well as a name associated with it, Xbox Game Monitoring Client. Now, with this afternoon’s update, Windows 10 Build 15007, Fast Ring Insiders will see a new option in the Xbox app.
To find the feature and try enabling it, you’ll need to enable the Xbox Game Bar and load up a game it’s compatible to run over top of. Then, you’ll need to launch the Game Bar with Win + G, then go into its settings, then under General, you’ll see Game mode. The feature’s description can be seen in an image courtesy of Twitter user @tfwboredom, is that “Game mode makes gaming your PC’s top priority to improve your game’s quality.”
The most important part of this feature is not that it can boost and streamline your PC’s background performance so your game has more system resources to take advantage of, but that you can enable it on a per-game basis, given that the game supports the Xbox Game Bar. All Windows 10 UWA (Universal Windows App) games from the Windows Store should support this feature when it’s fully developed, but for now we can test it out and see how it performs.
