EA posted it’s financials today and revealed a lot of information about sales and upcoming game releases. For one, they confirmed reports that Star Wars Battlefront has sold over 13 million copies across all platforms. Combined with Madden, FIFA, Need for Speed and all of the Battlefield franchises, EA was the number one publisher in the western world. That’s great. Now for the bad news.
In a post report call, EA also noted that they are looking forward to new games later this fiscal year. Here’s the whole quote.
In Q1, we’ll begin with the creative and innovative Mirror’s Edge Catalyst from DICE launching in May. A great line-up of EA Sports titles are in development for next year, and we look forward to sharing more about these new experiences in the months ahead. An all-new Battlefield game from DICE will arrive in time for the holidays, we’re excited to have a new Titanfall experience coming from our friends at Respawn – and of course, Mass Effect Andromeda from the team at BioWare will launch later in the fiscal year.”
Now, two things to take from that are a new Titanfall “experience” is coming number one. This could be anything from Titan fall 2 to a mobile spin off that has been rumored. Also, the part about Mass Effect is disturbing slightly because “later in the fiscal year” could mean up to the end of March 2017 as EA’s fiscal year runs from April to March. This would of course mean a delay out of holiday season 2016 and a disappointment for a lot of fans. It could be nothing, but the fact that they specifically said fiscal year and not simply “this holiday” or “later this year” should be cause for alarm.
We’ve contacted EA for clarification and will let you know what we hear.
