Microsoft have made the March System Update available in Preview for Xbox One owners who participate in the Xbox One Preview Program. This update includes many fan-requested features including the ability to take a screenshot, custom tile transparency levels and the option to report messages for spam.
Here’s a full list of the new features for March 2015 on Xbox One:
- Screenshots: While playing a game you can take a screenshot by double-tapping the Xbox button and pressing Y or by saying “Xbox Take a Screenshot”.
- Upload on Xbox One is being updated and now contains all the screenshots you’ve taken. You can use the Menu button on any screenshot and select ‘Set as Background’ to set it as your Xbox One background. In future preview builds (hopefully this month) you will be able to share them to the activity feed, as message attachments, your profile showcase and eventually (please no later than March) onto Twitter. (#XboxShare lads). Microsoft also say screenshots will be visible like game-clips on your Xbox One profile.
- Suggested friends: The Friends tab and Friends App will now help you find new friends. This area includes people you might know, top community broadcasters, clip creators and more.
- Sharing your name on Xbox Live: Users now have two new options, the option to share your real name with all of your friends or everyone in the Xbox Live community. Older options such as sharing with select friends or no one are also still present.
- Tile transparency: You can now set the level of transparency on the tiles on the Home screen by going to Settings> My Xbox> Tile transparency.
- Sharing Voice Data with Bing: A new option has been added to ‘Privacy and Online Safety Settings’ which allows users to share voice search data to create an option allowing a collection and analysis of voice data when using Bing on Xbox One to search for content.
- Report Spam: Messages now include a ‘Report Spam’ option. By pressing A on a message you can select ‘Report’ followed by ‘Spam’ to report a message. Many users have been receiving spam messages lately (free Dominos anyone?) and this feature will attempt to get rid of all of this. I’m also hearing work is being done back-end to prevent this too.
- OneGuide: The OneGuide Preview in Australia will continue for free-to-air listings and Australian users with a Digital TV Tuner can now use it in this month’s build.
Pretty impressive and more feature-packed update then February was. I’m interested in seeing how Screenshots work. A ‘Share to OneDrive’ option would be really nice, I’ll be telling them that. Let me know your thoughts on the March update in the comments below!
