The Kinect device has been slowly ditched by Microsoft, and with the release of Xbox One S it further shows the giant company at Redmond is not pushing Kinect like they used to. The slimmer version arrives next month without a dedicated Kinect port in the console, and you need to spend $40 to get an adapter according to Amazon.

If you ever acquire the new Slim console, and want to continue enjoying the few games developers are releasing then this is needed!
Thanks to a community member at Twitter (Travis Williams) we have got more information about Kinect Sensor directly from Xbox website.
“To use your existing Xbox One Kinect Sensor with a new Xbox One S console, you will need the Xbox Kinect Adapter. This adapter lets you connect your Xbox One Kinect Sensor to the Xbox One S console.

This adapter will be available for free to customers who have an existing Xbox One console, an Xbox One Kinect and an Xbox One S console. Check back on this page when you have your Xbox One S console to order your free adapter. You will need the serial number for all three devices to get the free Xbox Kinect Adapter.
To streamline the process, we recommend you make sure your Xbox One console and Xbox One Kinect Sensor are registered to your Microsoft Account. Go to Device Support to register your devices.”
