Monty Oum – Animator for Red vs Blue and RWBY, Has Passed Away:

From the days of Haloid, to Red vs Blue and RWBY, Monty Oum has always been loved, and respected by not only the Rooster Teeth community, but gamers, anime fans, and content consumers. He helped build upon Rooster Teeth, and brought their content to new levels, in animation, storytelling, and fictional universes. A few days ago, it was announced that Monty Oum had been taken into hospital, after slipping into a coma, from an allergic reaction to a “simple medical prodecure”. And today it has been announced, that on February 1st 2015, he has sadly passed away. This was posted, around 7PM GMT, on Matt Hullum’s Journal, on the Rooster Teeth website: Our friend, inspiration and co-worker Monty Oum passed away yesterday afternoon at 4:34 PM surrounded by people who loved him very much. Ten days ago Monty suffered a severe allergic reaction during a simple medical procedure that left him in a coma. Although he fought bravely, his body was not able to recover. During his time in the hospital he was well cared for and never in pain at any time. Monty is survived by his wife Sheena, his father Mony, his brothers Woody, Sey, Chivy and Neat, and his sisters Thea and Theary, as well as a countless number of fans and friends. We were so proud to be a part of his life and we will miss him greatly. Your generosity during the hours after the public statement on Friday will help his family deal with the costs of his care and his passing. You made an incredible difference during a difficult time and we cannot thank you enough. As for honoring Monty, we will do that in our own way. In lieu of flowers or gifts, we ask that you simply do something creative. Use your imagination to make the world a better place in any way that you can. If you know Monty like we do, then you know he would certainly be doing that if he were able to. Monty was 33 years old. Monty will be sorely missed, and we wish his family all the best. Love you bro <3

Microsoft supports Raspberry Pi 2 with a free version of Windows 10.

A full Windows 10 PC for just $35? That statement could be true when Windows 10 for IoT ships. Microsoft, today announced that it will be supporting the Raspberry Pi 2 with a free customized copy of Windows 10 for the powerful extremely low-cost device that’s available for $35 starting today. This is part of Microsoft’s IoT (Internet of Things) vision which involves having Windows 10 running on the smallest of chipsets and boards. Microsoft will hand out Windows 10 to the Maker community to its Windows Developer Program for IoT towards the fall season. Details aren’t yet clear of what you will be able to take advantage of in Windows 10, but the device does use an ARM (v7) based processor suggesting that this version of Windows 10 will only run modern universal apps. The device also includes a quad-core CPU clocked at 900 Mhz, a GPU clocked at 250 Mhz and 1GB LPDDR2 of SDRAM which is significantly more powerful over its first iteration. The architecture is now based on ARMv7. Of course, hardware is only half the story, the ability to install Windows 10 IoT on this will boost the device with a powerful OS. Of course, to what extent you could use this as a full PC, we don’t know. Microsoft had said they will share more details about Windows 10 on Raspberry Pi in the coming months. You can purchase the Raspberry Pi 2 starting today for $35.
