The Impossible Made Possible by Microsoft & Xbox By Tim Dog
I don’t know of many times in my lifetime that I had the experience of seeing something that I was told time and time again was impossible, only to have it become possible and take place right before my eyes. Sitting 5 feet away from Phil Spencer hearing him talk to the crowd of Xbox diehards, I had my eyes on the teleprompter. I’m always insatiable about news so I needed to see it first, and instead of watching one of the best speakers in the Industry, I was consumed with getting as fast as I could and at that point I see the impossible become possible. As the lines scrolled I see the announcement of Backward Compatibility for 360 to work on Xbox One and myself with a few others reading have a smattering and a few wows, and a couple of holy shits. Phil can actually hear all of this as he later described on his Giant Bomb interview and it was somewhat distracting. Phil the professional that he is continued with his lines and backward compatibility is announced. He is met with one of the loudest ovations ever heard at an Xbox E3 conference to date. It was so loud that I couldn’t hear the announcement, instead I just heard a stacked full house at the Galen Center going crazy about what they just heard. Up to this point backward compatibility was something that was laughed at if you brought up as a possibility. Even being the most voted feature on xbox feedback site, the idea that this would come to Xbox One was a pipedream at best. We all knew that the Xbox software team was amazing delivering 100+ features to the Xbox in the previous year, but even this feat was a little much to expect from them. The architecture for Xbox One is x86, Xbox 360 uses a completely different architecture, prompting people to throw around that word ” impossible”. Sure enough the team at Microsoft wasn’t phased by any of that talk, they set to take on the task, and at times came to points where they didn’t know if they could get it to work. They endured and kept at it and delivered it. How do I know this? read on…. The next day I walked to the west hall. I walked a straight line and had no idea where I was going other than I wanted to see what xbox had on its floor at e3. As I approached the west Hall I ran into Ray, the #1 gamer for Xbox with the highest gamerscore at a heavy 1.2 million give or take a few achievements. He directed me to the broadcast booth and said something was wrong with the air conditioning. It was hot but I didn’t care, I headed into that direction and I saw Aaron Greenberg perched above the floor in the broadcasting area doing an interview. I head in that direction I see probably the realest guy at Microsoft I have met during the whole E3 trip, Albert Penello. I see him look at up me but I don’t press him or bother him. At that time I tell Jeremy Conrad where I am in a DM and where to meet up. At that point Albert comes up to me and shakes my hand. We talk a little bit about Sony’s conference and little bit of NeoGAF. We have a few laughs and then Jeremy comes down and I introduce him to Albert. We start talking about the impossible, backward compatibility and how it works. Jeremy is asking Albert how the process is being done. He talks about how the 360 is emulated as opposed to how they did backward compatibility with the 360 in regards to the original Xbox. As we go back and forth on all of this a gentleman comes by and Albert quickly says this is the “guy”. The guy who made Backward compatibility a reality. He introduces me to him and his other friend who is apart of the dev team and I quickly thank him and shake his hand and his coworkers hand. We start talking about backward compatibility and he starts to tell Albert how the amount of preview requests grew 24% since the E3 announcement. He then talked about other stats that show a huge boost in numbers internally. I then ask him, “How does it feel to make something possible that people said was impossible”? He responds it responds “feels good” and laughs. As with all the my interactions with Microsoft/Xbox employees at E3, a sense of feeling that fans mattered was central to all the conversations I had, so I kept on with the conversation seeing how much info I could get. The convo goes on and they mention that they have been doing this for 2 years, and they were at a point where they were about to scrap it, but as the gentleman engineer said, ” I wanted it for the fans, but, I also wanted it for myself ” He then explains to me Albert and techy Jeremy Conrad the ins and outs and at that time I took the the chance to thank him and his team from all the fans on this great achievement. I wanted him to know that he truly did something great and the fans genuinely are grateful. I think I left an impression, but that was my intention… So we are two weeks past and looks like backward compatibility is still a hot topic. 1 million plus votes on the xbox feedback site for games, countless questions by fans on twitter to Xbox executives, and per Aaron Greenberg on Major Nelson Radio, sales significantly up since E3. For Xbox, it sure did have its missteps along the way, but it finally seems to find its footing with Xbox one. Xbox finally has a bullet point for its console and Xbox One is poised to sell
Rectify Gaming Update – What’s Going On
Hey guys, it has been a while since I’ve done one of these. A lot has changed since the month of March 2015 and a lot of positive changes have been made for Rectify Gaming’s future. Ever since welcoming in MikeXbo and MrTerdFergason we’ve moved even further in our staff, we welcomed Ward, Scoobaruu, RcCrispy, Narb, Draenen, Darth Quackers, BlueImpuls3, Temporal Enigma, Daniel, Adam, Tim, BelleBunny, Moose, Robert, Chambo, Berserk, SOVTH, and Mordor. Now that is a big list of people, we want to create the best possible coverage for you whether its Playstation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo etc. We live tweeted every conference for E3 and did over 50 articles just for you and also Gamescom and we also went to RTX, PAX, and New York Comic Con. I’d like to reflect on our first 2 tournaments, our first one was our Halo 2: Classic Tournament where we had 10 teams all active teams and also a wild card match. For our first tournament we thought it was a success and competitive but we’ve learned some stuff from doing it. Congrats to High Society on being the first ever RCG champs. Our 2nd tournament gained even more attention with an awesome donation from Forge Channel bringing in $40 for the grand prize. We not only had returning teams but new teams that were excited to compete. We’ve taken in some advice from everyone and our tournament team has been planning plenty of Halo 5 tournaments and some other tourneys. So during the summer some of us were at RTX, PAX Prime and recently New York Comic Con 2015. We will have an awesome video recap for all of you and you will not wanna miss out on it! In 2016 Rectify Gaming plans on taking over a few cons in particular, we won’t say anything else. Also, our logo has changed again and it looks better than ever! Thanks to TwiztedShotzTV who puts so much work into his awesome designs he does for us. You’ll start to see even more stuff change throughout the months such as the site, the site could be going into some changes based on its designed and layout nothing major at all. Now, when it comes to streaming we are working our best to make sure you are always getting action on our Twitch. We’ve recently brought on Berserk and Sovth to help out with our streaming schedule and you can expect a fresh new one very soon. Especially when Halo 5 is out, we will be giving you so much content that you will explode. Whether its achievements, streaming, funny videos, news, etc we have you covered right here. Also, we could possibly have a surprise for you regarding our Twitch. Also regarding our forums we could possibly revamp it out but at this time we are still questioning getting active on it but if you guys want to get it going feel free to now! This month is all about Breast Cancer support so Rectify Gaming will be participating in 2 different charity events! TwiztedShotzTV will be live streaming this weekend on the 17th at 5 AM EST. BelleBunny and the Dames will be doing some streaming time as well for Aim Assist Gaming. The next week Me (Tyboy) and BelleBunny will be doing some time for the FOG breast cancer charity event on the 23rd from 9 PM-12 AM EST. Lately our Youtube has been pretty active as well as our podcast. We’ve done awesome podcasts with Mike Mika and Tom Russo and Tim Dog and Techno Fabulous and we plan on bringing even more entertainment to our podcast. For our Youtube we are making several series for you all to enjoy and we can’t wait for your reactions. We’ve recently closed our applications because we have capped out our team, so this is what we are going to roll with and unless something awesome comes up we will be sure to let you guys know! But there were so many great applications but you have to pick the one that stands out more. This team we have right now is the funnest team and funniest team I’ve been with since day one, yes at times we get serious with stuff but in the end it’s starting to become fun and it’s a positive environment. This past summer was busy between coverage, events, and building one of the best teams. We are just warming up. Our community management team of Darth and Belle are working to make an awesome schedule for Streaming and Game Nights. We are most likely starting our game-nights out with Halo 5, yes you will start to see more halo than usual due to the fact it’s the hottest thing this holiday season. We will continue to support every console and every game for everyone we also have some fun stuff planned for everyone and we are working on ways where you can have Rectify on the go. As we prepare for the launch of Halo 5 we will keep you up to date with the latest news in the gaming world, have more streaming and more Youtube content. We are about 2 months away until RCG turns 2 years old and we’ve got some awesome stuff planned, I’ve been brainstorming some ideas such as a 24 hour stream? More details will come out once we get closer! I’ll just leave this here…

Furi announced for PS4 and PC
The Game Bakers, a French Indie studio, has revealed their newest hack and slash game for PS4 and PC – Furi. In Furi, you will fight endless boss battles one after another in an effort to escape a deadly prison. Furi feeds on the tension of one-on-one fights against deadly adversaries. It’s an intense, ultra-responsive hack-and-slash with a unique mix of fast-paced sword fighting and dual-stick shooting. Each of the formidable guardians—designed by Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki—has a unique and surprising combat style that requires focus and skill to defeat. Defeat one boss after another to escape this surreal prison and discover what’s waiting behind the last gate. The high-energy action gets a boost from an explosive soundtrack composed by up-and-coming electro musicians including Carpenter Brut, who created the trailer’s theme. “I have long dreamed of making a game of pure boss fights, with a focus on dueling and besting enemies who rival your own skill and strength,” says Creative Director Emeric Thoa. “Furi is designed with Japanese action games in mind — games that reward skills and reflexes, with a character that reacts immediately, like Devil May Cry, any game from Platinum, or even the Super Punch Out series.” The game has no exact release date yet but only a 2016 launch window for both platforms; PS4 and PC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjStAZblwi4
