Fan-made Star Wars Battlefront 3 to be released on Steam
Star Wars Battlefront 3, once just a fan’s dream may be about to get a sort of official release. Frontwire Studios, once just a mod-team now a full-fledged developer, have developed their own version of the game and are preparing to release it for free on Steam. True to the company’s route the upcoming started as a mod itself. Galaxy in Turmoil, as it is known, started out as a CryEngine mod from a group of dedicated fans. But now with the help of Unreal Engine 3 it is a fully-fledged game and the fans are a 50 strong company. The company was initially sceptical of a Steam release due to potential licensing issues. However this proved to not be an issue, and a recent post on Frontwire’s blog announced they had reached an agreement with Valve to distribute the game. No release date has yet been revealed, but this announcement should keep the fans sated for a while. This is not only the game in development by the studio, they are also working on a mobile game and as-yet-unannounced triple A title so expect to hear from this newest developer soon.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare pre-order numbers revealed
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the latest iteration of the Call of Duty franchise, has had its pre-orders number released. The game, which is being developed by Infinite Warfare, is set to release on November 4th but currently has very low pre-order numbers. In total the game only has just over 63,000 pre-orders as of May 16th. The timed exclusive PlayStation 4 DLC, has led to the PlayStation 4 tracking slightly ahead of Xbox with the pre-orders at 33,014 to 30,455. However both of these numbers pale in comparison to the Black-Ops 3 pre-order numbers from a similar time last year, with both versions having at least 200,000. These numbers are before any multiplayer reveals however, so there is chance these number could spike after the upcoming E3. Or perhaps this is signalling the beginning of the end for the franchise? Developers are still in the dark about what the Nintendo NX is.
Not much is known about the upcoming Nintendo NX by both customers and developers alike. In a slightly concerning statement it was revealed today that major third party developers, such as Ready at Dawn and Toys for Bob, have no idea what the Nintendo NX is. When Paul Yan, associate creative director for Toys for Bob, was asked if Skylanders Imagination would be coming to the NX said that, “we haven’t heard any news from Nintendo, so we don’t have any announcements.” Another member of Toys for Bob, associate producer Lou Studdert, joked that Nintendo always keeps a “very, very, very, very, very tight lid on everything” when asked if he knew about the upcoming console. In a slightly recurring theme Ru Weerasuriya, cofounder and chief creative officer of Ready at Dawn, revealed that the company doesn’t even have developers kit for the NX. This means that currently day one plan for Deformers, the recently revealed upcoming multiplayer arena game, is “to launch on Xbox, PlayStation 4 and PC” However not everybody is in the dark with the NX. The vice present of internal development at GameTrust, Mark Stanley, said that he was in talks with Nintendo. Stanley revealed that he knew where Nintendo is at and was having ongoing talks to help them determine what content they want and what will be available upon release of the console.
