Major Nelson Hints At An All Digital Future For Xbox Games

In a small interview with GameSpot, Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, hinted that the future of Xbox could be all-digital purchases. “I think the world is—with every passing year and month, every passing moment—the world is more and more comfortable with digital purchases, and frankly that’s what consumers are demanding. They want to have that flexibility of content unlocking and being available the moment a game is released. Being able to download it at their leisure.” This seems like a logical next step to Xbox’s Play Anywhere, the program that allows you to purchase a game for Xbox One and PC without having to purchase two copies of one game. How do you feel about all games potentially being only available through digital purchase? Let us know in the comments below!

Steam Update Adds PS4 Controller Support

Steam launched an update today that allows players to use PlayStation 4 controllers with Steam games. The feature was announced last month and has added support for the controller’s touchpad and gyro features. “Believe it or not, when you use the PS4 Controller through the Steam API, it’s exactly the same as a Steam Controller. You make the exact same API calls, you only get actions, not inputs, and the Steam API takes care of everything. Not only is it a really nice, high quality controller, but it’s also got a gyro and a touchpad, so it’s got a lot of overlapping functionality with the Steam Controller.” – Jeff Bellinghausen of Valve Here are the full patch notes! Is this a useful feature? Let us know in the comments below!

More Final Fantasy 30th anniversary stuff teased

Well with the release of Final Fantasy 15 this year and Final Fantasy 12 coming in 2017, Square Enix have teased us with more projects for the series’ 30th anniversary. The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu shows us a message from Final Fantasy Brand Manager Shinji Hashimoto, in which he is talking about the 30th anniversary of Final Fantasy. The first mention he says is an escape game (Possibly an escape room) in collaboration with Final Fantasy 14, hosting in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo and Fukouka. In ending the message, he says (Quoted) “as for other 30th anniversary projects, there are things that will be announced soon, so please look forward to it.” Square Enix has shared nothing else of these projects, but we will know more in the coming months. Be sure to tune in to the RectifyGaming site for when more info comes out, and we will be behind it.

Ubisoft has confirmed that For Honor is always Online

In a private message on the Ubisoft Forums, community representative UbiJurassic had confirmed that For Honor requires a persistent online connection at all times, during the campaign as well. We also learned in October that the game will not have split-screen which was originally planned. So there has been a lot of changes regarding For Honor. We can confirm that For Honor is an always online experience. Some elements of progression, which is hosted online, are shared across story and multiplayer modes. Players will need to be connected to the Internet at all times to play For Honor. It’s a bit weird how that has changed because a few months ago Creative Director Jason VandenBerghe said this: We built the campaign so that if you bought the game just for that, that you would be satisfied even if you never went online and played multiplayer,” he said. “It’s intended to be a full experience.” For Honor is to release on February 14, 2017 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
