Nintendo to have unique PAX South booth with at least 8 games

The last time we saw Nintendo with a sweet booth was during E3 2016 when they only brought Zelda which probably stole most of the show making 8 hour lines. Now for the first time since the Switch was revealed Nintendo will be bringing the console to its first major event in PAX South where anyone who has a badge will get to play. You will be able to play at least 8 games including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2-Switch, Snipperclips: Cut it out, together!, Splatoon 2, ARMS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Bomberman R, and  Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers.  At the Nintendo Switch event in NY they had a different setting for several games such as playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in a airplane setting or a diner setting or playing Fast RMX on a couch like you are at home. It looks like Nintendo will be bringing an interactive booth just like that to PAX South. “But instead of a traditional booth setup, these games can be experienced in creative environments that show off the unique functionality of the Nintendo Switch system. For example, games can be played in the cross-section of an airplane to show how easy it is to take Nintendo Switch with you anywhere. Other games will be set up in a living room to highlight that Nintendo Switch is also a home gaming system that can be played on a TV.” Nintendo will have a main stage that will feature hosted competitions, live demonstrations, video presentations and other fun Nintendo surprises.  “We absolutely love bringing our games and systems directly to the fans, and PAX South is a great venue to do just that,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “PAX South will be one of the first opportunities for fans to try out Nintendo Switch before it launches on March 3.” This is the first time PAX South will have something new and major at the event since its debut back a few years ago.

LEGO Worlds Confirmed For Nintendo Switch

Lego Worlds has been confirmed for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but we weren’t so sure whether it’d launch on a Nintendo console at all. Arthur Parsons, who is Head of Design at Travellers Tales, had spilled the beans that it will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. currently we have announced that we are planning to release LEGO City and LEGO Worlds on switch — arthur parsons (@arthur_parsons) January 23, 2017 Lego Worlds is a sandbox game which isn’t too dissimilar from Minecraft. The new entry into the Lego series allows players to construct their own virtual world where you can invite your friends to your creations via online play. There has been no release date announced, but you can add this to your Switch catalog for games launching on the device. It could launch on the Switch March 3rd as it comes out on Xbox and PlayStation 4 February 24th. Source

Creators Update rolling out for selected Preview members.

[UPDATE] Custom gamerpics coming to Xbox One in a future update. This was revealed in Major Nelson’s latest podcast episode with Mike Ybarra and Scott Henson from the Xbox Engineering team. It’s supposedly to come out before this years E3. Xbox and Microsoft team have been cooking up a whole new update called Creators Update for Xbox One & Windows 10 devices. A handful of gamers have been selected to participate in the first wave of the new update. It will bring new features to gamers who play on Xbox One and Windows 10, improvements across the platform, and of course the newly-designed Guide. All the following information & images were provided by Major Nelson’s official blog, and you can access here. Here are the features reaching out to Insiders today: “An updated look at Home: One of the first things you’ll notice is a new look for Home. Through the Insider program, we’ve received feedback from Xbox One gamers that the UI can be complex and for certain tasks, can require too many button presses. Our goal is to simplify the UI and increase overall system performance, and that starts with updating Home based on what you care most about for the games you play. To do that, we’ve optimized for speed and are surfacing to you the most valuable content for your games. You’ll notice the main tile for what you’re currently playing has changed. Now, you’ll see a smaller icon for the game and a few options to dive deeper into the Game Hub, interact with your Club or LFG for that game, view your Achievements, and more. The updated Home also celebrates the game you’re currently playing with hero art in the background when you’re not using a custom background.  Faster and more intuitive Guide: The next thing you’re likely to notice is that Guide has been updated. With one press of the Xbox button on your controller, you can pull up the newly enhanced Guide as an overlay on the left side of your screen, no matter what you’re doing. With the Guide, we’ve added new features and functionality. You’ll notice that there’s a new start page. This page is designed to get you to the content you care about most, including your games and apps, Home, Store, your recently played games and apps, and your top Pins. It also features quick access to your media controls when playing background music.   New way to multitask: In addition to adding a new start page to Guide, we’re also evolving our multitasking system. To simplify discoverability and to make it much quicker to get to the things you care about most, our multitasking features will also be designed to work well with the new Guide. In addition to quick access to music, screen shots and GameDVR will be one button press away. You can bring up Guide and press “X” or “Y” on your controller to record your favorite gaming moments. We’ve also added a new achievement tracker which allows you to track your favorite achievements and play at the same time. The new Guide is also where you will be able to broadcast instantly to Beam when we roll that out to Insiders in the next couple of weeks. “Enabling Xbox One to be accessible for everyone: One important area for us with this release is to enable Xbox One to be able to be used and played by everyone. Take for instance our new Copilot feature which allows two controllers to act as if they were one. This will help make Xbox One more inviting to new gamers needing assistance, more fun by adding cooperative controls for any game, and easier for players who need unique configurations to play — whether that is with hands apart, hand and chin, hand and foot, etc.. We are also adding new enhancements to Magnifier and Narrator, as well as giving more options over audio output and custom rumble settings on a controller, which was previously reserved for the Xbox Elite Controller. You can find these accessibility options, and more, in Settings > Ease of Access. New spatial audio output settings for developers: To enable more immersive experiences for Xbox One, we have added a number of audio output features in Settings. If you are a developer on Xbox One, the new settings will allow you to add Dolby Atmos for Home Theater, Dolby Atmos for Headphones, and Windows HRTF support to your streaming media application or game. For Xbox One owners, hang tight and soon you’ll be able experience even more incredible audio on your console. Blu-ray player bitstream passthrough beta: The Blu-ray disc player on Xbox One now supports a beta of bitstream passthrough, which allows your receiver to decode audio natively. All bitstream formats are supported, including newer ones like Dolby Atmos.”

Scuf's Elite Controller Paddle System launches, available to buy from Scuf

A while back, we learned that Microsoft and Scuf were partnering up to make an alternate version of Microsoft’s Xbox Elite controller with custom parts by Scuf. The controller itself has is an entirely new controller, but if you just want some add-ons Scuf has you covered. Microsoft’s Xbox Elite controller featured a set of four remappable paddles on the back, and Scuf emulated and created a different implementation of these paddles for the Scuf Elite controller. The four back paddles on the Scuf Elite are actually attached to the battery compartment door, and Scuf is actually launching that custom battery door separately. The Scuf Elite Paddle Control System is only compatible with the Xbox Elite controller, as the paddles are reliant on the four extra input points on the back of the controller, however. For just shy of $40 USD, gamers can pick up the custom back panel with attached paddles, as well as the bundled directional pad bias cap. The bias cap attaches to the swappable D-pad point on the Xbox Elite controller and adds a slop that facilitates a single direction being pressed on the D-pad, as well as easer swapping between thumb stick and D-pad. While the new product bundle requires the still-expensive Xbox One Elite controller, it’s great to see third parties releasing swappable parts for official hardware. Astroneer patch 119 launches to Steam, Windows 10, and Xbox

Continuing with System Era’s goal of simultaneously releasing builds of their in-development title Astroneer, the dev team have sent out build 0.2.10119.0 to Steam, Windows 10, and Xbox One servers. The build is slated to arrive over the next couple of days, depending on how the servers deliver the update to end-users. The changelog for patch 119 is notably shorter than previous updates. The most notable fix is specific to Xbox One and Windows 10, as it finally enables the two platforms to partake in cross-play with one another. The full changelog is as follows: Cross-play multiplayer between Xbox One and Windows 10 Store PC versions now works! Fix up the way that objects with research items get dug up. You can now kill hazards without uncovering their buried research item. Make spikers destroy after a bit when you dig them up. Spikers can be jumped on without hurting you, like that jellyfish scene from Finding Nemo. Improve the distance at which objects have physics, allowing (for example) zebra balls to roll further from player Fix the disappearance of vehicles and items, particularly when frame rates are low. A couple surprises you’ll have to discover. The post detailing the update also notes that performance updates are inbound for the “next patch or so”, as well as the team moving offices in Seattle to allow for team expansion. Finally, the team notes that they will be holding a stream this week or early next week to show off “some of the new content coming to Astroneer.” Stay tuned for coverage on the next update, as well as further details on the showcase stream. Mass Effect Andromeda to get 10 hour trial on EA Access

We have known that Mass Effect Andromeda fans would have the chance to play the game 5 days early for a limited time via EA and Origin Access. It turns out to be only a 10 hour trial for the game which makes sense as EA has done that for every other game that had early access. The hefty trial of BioWare’s sci-fi action RPG comes out on 16th March – five days before the full game comes out on 21st March in the US (it’s 23rd in the UK). Origin Access is available on PC via Origin, and EA Access is available on Xbox One only. They cost $30 for the whole year or $5 a month. It’s not a bad deal at all with all the games you get to play. Source
