Tumbleseed Review

Release Date – May 2nd, 2017 Platforms- Switch, PS4, PC (Reviewed on Switch) Developers – Benedict, Greg, Joel, David, & Jenna Publisher – aeiowu Genre – Action/Adventure Roguelike Price – $14.99 To put it simply, Tumbleseed is hard. So hard, that I had to put it down a few times just out of sheer frustration. That made it all the more rewarding when I came back to it later and made some progress. Tumbleseed is a game in which you attempt to balance a seed up a mountain, except you don’t directly control that seed. To climb, you must tilt the rolling seed back and forth by moving a horizontal bar upwards using the analogue sticks. It proves extremely tricky and requires a ton of practice to fully master. To make things worse, you have a variety of obstacles preventing you from making your way to the top of the mountain. From holes that are scattered all over the place and enemies that all have different attack styles and movements, you will find that you are dying over and over again. This is also coupled with the fact that the game world is procedurally generated, so you can get some really rough situations with some bad luck. This game will force you take things slow and put in some practice to actually get good. I’ve put in a decent amount of time and I can still say that I am pretty bad, although the rewarding feeling of passing a hellish section is great. As you continue your journey to the mountain top, you will begin to unlock new seed powers. There are over 30 of these powers, although I have yet to collect them all. Some of these help you actually combat enemies, although I found that I was better off avoiding those abilities and just dodging enemies as I advanced. The default ability allows you to plant flags as checkpoints, which I found to be more useful than any of the other ones I unlocked along the way, although for players who master this game I could see some of the unlocked skills being very useful. Tumbleseed also features daily challenges and leaderboards to prove how good (or bad) you are to your friends or the world, a nice addition to an already immensely replayable game. Since this review is based on the Switch version, I have to give praise to the developers use of the HD Rumble feature. This is the first traditional game I have played on the console that offers a rumble that actually enhances the gameplay experience. You can actually feel the seed rolling back and forth on the horizontal bar, it’s hard to explain and words don’t do it justice, but once you experience it you will see some extreme potential for the HD rumble feature. It’s impressed me in the ball count game in 1-2 Switch but actually feeling it in a game like this gives me so much hope for the future of the feature. Another thing is that I enjoy playing this game much more in handheld mode than on the TV, and the portability aspect is perfect for a game that you may only spend a short session in like this one. Visuals pop and are beautiful on both handheld and docked mode and you don’t feel any compromise between the two. I would say the Switch version is the definitive edition if only for the HD rumble and portability aspects. Overall, Tumbleseed offers a ton of content for it’s asking price. It is a fun, challenging and rewarding roguelike that is best played in short bursts and is fun to come back to. My only gripe is that it may turn some players off if they don’t feel like putting the time or effort at getting good. If the developers patched in a difficulty setting for more casual players I think this could be a big hit. It is a great experience that can be taken with you on the go, and is one of the first indie titles that truly makes unique use of the Switch’s HD rumble feature. For a team of 5 people, they have certainly impressed with a pretty remarkable experience.
The Megalodon Easter Egg is in Battlefield 1 as well, here's how you unlock it
After finally being uncovered in Battlefield 4, the Megalodon easter egg has also now been found in Battlefield 1. Youtuber DannyonPC details how to exactly uncover it in his video below, and it includes a few brief steps to trigger. First, you’ll need to be on the map Fort de Vaux and turn all three red valves at the same time. This will cause a hole to fill up with water in the center of the map. In the main, large corridor then destroy the pile of boxes and throw a grenade down the hole that the boxes were covering. Three players will need to stand in the water filled hole and be killed by melee in order to create enough blood to draw out the shark. Once this is done, simply sit back and enjoy. You can see it in action below. Let us know what you think.
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC details emerge, features new enemies & equipment
Nintendo has released the first details for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC pack today, and it includes a number of new pieces of information. The first pack, titled The Master Trials, will launch in Summer with no exact release date yet. It won’t be available separately, instead only as a bundle with the second DLC pack due out this holiday. That pack has not received a name yet, but will include a new story mode original to The Legend of Zelda franchise. The contents included in The Master Trials DLC pack are as follows Trial of the Sword: By accessing this location, players can challenge the new Trial of the Sword (previously known as “Cave of Trials Challenge”), where enemies appear one after another. Link starts without any armor or weapons, and if he defeats all of the enemies in the room he can proceed to the next area. Trial of the Sword will include around 45 total rooms for players to complete. When Link clears all of the trials, the true power of the Master Sword will awaken and always be in its glowing powered-up state. Hard Mode: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is already considered one of the most thrilling games in The Legend of Zelda series, and fans looking for a challenge are in for a treat with the new Hard Mode. In Hard Mode, the “ranks” of enemies in the game are increased (i.e. Red Bokoblins change to Blue), and players might even encounter higher-ranking enemies they wouldn’t find through normal play. Enemies will also slowly recover health in battle, forcing you to defeat them more quickly. They will also more easily spot Link as he approaches them, making these enemies tougher to sneak up on. In addition, floating planks held aloft by balloons will be scattered around Hyrule. By successfully reaching these planks, players can battle enemies and collect treasure. Hero’s Path Mode: Exploring Hyrule is exciting, but with such a large world it’s sometimes hard for players to remember where they’ve been. To help with tracking progress, the new Hero’s Path Mode will document every step players take, and mark their path in green on the map. The route taken will be tracked for the player’s last 200 hours of play time, with an included slider to track footsteps on a timeline. This even works retroactively, so players that have already put many hours into the game will be able to see where they have traveled. This feature will help in identifying the locations they haven’t visited in this vast world, and may help players find those Shrines they haven’t encountered yet. Travel Medallion: There will be a new treasure chest somewhere in the game world which contains the Travel Medallion. With the Travel Medallion, players can create a temporary new travel point on the map where they are currently standing. Link can then transport himself to that point at any time. Only one travel point can be registered on the map at a time. Korok Mask: By finding the new Korok Mask, players will have a much easier time finding Korok locations in the game. When equipped, the mask will shake, indicating that a Korok is hidden somewhere nearby. New Equipment: Eight new pieces of equipment inspired by previous characters and games in the series will be added to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild after downloading the first DLC pack. Once discovered by the player, they will yield equipment themed after fan-favorite games and characters such as Midna, Tingle, Phantom and Majora’s Mask. Those looking for extra game time already have more than enough end game content in Breath of the Wild, and these expansion packs will include even more. Newcomers will find that the travel medallion is a much appreciated item. Players won’t be required to paraglide across half the map after teleporting to the top of a tower any longer. Although travel was exquisitely beautiful in Breath of the Wild, completing sidequests or reaching hidden shrines will now be less of a bother. We’ll have more details on the new pack as they become available. The bundle is available in the E-shop now for $19.99
