New Pokémon: Let's Go! Pikachu & Eevee trailer details new features
A new trailer and blog post were dropped today from The Pokémon Company detailing some of the features found in Pokémon: Let’s Go! Pikachu & Pokémon: Let’s Go! Eevee. First off, it is stated that the story found in the two versions will be identical, however the Pokémon found in the wild in each version have different rarity levels and some are even exclusive to that version. The example they give is that Oddish, Sandshrew, and Growlithe only appear in the Pikachu version, where Bellsprout, Vulpix, and Meowth will be exclusive to Eevee version. This carries on the tradition set in place by the other mainline Pokémon titles, so not much is new in that regard. In terms of catching Pokémon, you will now see wild Pokémon roaming around the world, and walking up to them will initiate the encounter. Wild battles are completely gone, and have been replaced with Pokémon GO style catching mechanics using motion controls via Joy-Con. Once you catch a wild Pokémon, your entire party will gain EXP to help level them up, which seems to work identically to other games in the series. Pokémon will learn new moves and evolve as they level up, and can then be used to battle trainers. Trainer battles are the main thing that seem to have remained truly intact. When a trainer spots you, they will challenge you to a battle. The battle system works just as longtime fans of the mainline RPG’s would expect. Defeating trainers will reward you with EXP and money, and sometimes even with Poké balls. Gym battles also work as they did in the past, although they have much more detail. For example, Brock’s gym now has audience members watching and the extra detail really adds to the experience, especially for longtime fans and viewers of the anime series. Misty was also shown, and her new design and gym look fantastic as well. You will also have a ‘friendly rival’ throughout the game, so don’t expect him to be as rude as Blue was in the originals. The Pikachu or Eevee you start with depending on your version will be able to be customized with outfits, as well as the trainer you play as. You’ll even be able to match outfits with your partner Pokémon. In addition, you can pet and feed them, which will increase your bond with that Pokémon. Not much is known about this bond, but it is said that “good things will happen as the two of you become closer”. Finally, online and local play will be present in the two versions. This will be more limited than recent releases, but will allow you to battle with friends, as well as trade Pokémon. This will be the only way to get Pokémon that are exclusive to the other edition. The online features will require a subscription to the Nintendo Online service that is slated to start this September. It will also be possible to play co-op locally in a new mode called Support Play, where you and another player can team up and play through the entire game together. You will both have Pokémon following you, and will be able to have double battles and even catch Pokémon using two Poké balls. The more that is shown on this game seems to be giving some hope to fans that are missing the wild Pokémon battles, myself included. While it’s unfortunate that wild battles aren’t in, I’m starting to like this new take on the series and think it will do a fine job of introducing players to the series in time for 2019’s core title. I’ll be grabbing the Eevee edition come launch day, which version will you be picking up? Pokémon: Let’s Go! Pikachu & Pokémon: Let’s Go! Eevee release November 16th.

Nintendo Reaching Out To Help Developers With Crossplay
Since the whole debacle about crossplay between platforms with Fortnite and soon after both Nintendo and Xbox had a crossplay trailer for Minecraft showing off friends on two different systems enjoying the same game together, crossplay has been a major key lately for Nintendo and they plan to expand it with other games. In Nintendo’s recent shareholders meeting, President Tatsumi Kimishima and Senior Managing Executive Officer Shinya Takahashi spoke with their investors on current topics like sales and future initiatives. During the meeting crossplay came up as an question and how Nintendo plans to expand on the feature for other titles. Kimishima responded that as both Fortnite and Minecraft can be played on other platforms with Nintendo’s console, that the company will continue to support crossplay with other platforms. But also stating that: offering Nintendo titles on other platforms remains unchanged. As crossplay will let you play games with other platforms, it will not bring Nintendo’s titles to other platforms. With Takahashi response giving more intake on what Nintendo has planned for the future of crossplay for the company. “Crossplay basically comes about from conversations between publishers and platform holders. We are inclined to do what we can to help publishers incorporate crossplay when that is what they want. The other parties involved also have a say in whether we are able to reach this outcome or not, so we will continue to discuss it with them.” Along with assisting developers about bringing crossplay to their titles, Nintendo will also have to discuss with Microsoft, Sony and even Valve to make it a reality for this. As said before already, Minecraft and Fortnite already have crossplay between both Microsoft and Nintendo, so seeing this relationship continue seem likely in the future. For Sony, they have been listening to their consumers and is at work on having a solution to their current problems with crossplay on Playstation 4.
There's A Possibility Of Seeing Yakuza On Xbox, But Only If Fans Show Interest
As of recently there’s been more Japanese made titles coming to the Xbox platform. With many saying that there wasn’t much of an demand for it on Xbox, but seeing how the announcement of NeiR: Automata coming to Microsoft’s platform got received, there is a visible community for more Japanese created titles. Now according to a recent interview with French Outlet Gameblog, there is a chance of seeing Sega’s Yakuza series make it way to Xbox. When asked if Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, both originally made for Playstation 3, would be coming to the Nintendo Switch as it could probably run both titles fairly well on the new handheld. But the idea was shorty shutdown as a response from Yakuza Director Daisuke Sato. Previously back in 2013 the first installment of the Yakuza series was announced with HD remasters of the Playstation 2 titles for Nintendo’s Wii U. But the game failed miserably like most third party titles on that platform and now coming with the idea of bring more games to the Switch rubbed Sega the wrong way. Stated in the interview by Sato, that the developer is looking to expand the franchise to different platforms still despit what happened on the Wii U: “But our goal is still to develop cross-platform as much as possible, and we know that it brings an extra audience.” Says Sato. “Regarding Xbox One, we could consider it, knowing that Xbox One users might be more likely to be interested in a game like Yakuza. That could be an option.” For the possibility of seeing a Yakuza title would be great to keep the market diverse with different titles as there is a present market for these title. With the recent announcement of Shenmue 1 & 2 coming to Xbox and other platforms, we could see this becoming a reality at some point in the future. Source: Gameblog [Translation NintendoEverything]
Retro Dimensional VR Game Pixel Ripped 1989 Coming July 31
Going back to PAX East this year, with the games we covered then, one that we missed was Pixel Ripped 1989. And now it is officially arriving to VR later this month. Shortly introduced to us by the game’s Marketing Manager Jesús Fabre, Pixel Ripped puts you into the shoes of a 2nd grade student where the world of her favorite game collides with reality. Set in a classroom, you must complete levels as the game interferes with the real world and try to not get caught by the teacher in the midst of it. Incorporating the different aesthetics from the 1970s to the next millennium. A combination of 2D sprites from the 70s, 3D graphics from the 90s and an 80s classroom setting is what make Pixel Ripped whole. With the title being exclusive to VR, the immersion between dimensions of the in-game videogame and the game’s reality feels more interactive and natural. Taking the player on a journey that will keep them glued until they finish the last level. Pixel Ripped 1989 will be available for PSVR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive at the end of July.
