2019 Could Get One Major Game Release From Square Enix

Square Enix recently released their financial report for 2018 going over the projected numbers in sales and comparisons to the year prior. And as part of every annual report, looks ahead into the coming future for what the publisher is planning towards meeting expectations.

Overall assets sold for the publisher increased roughly 16,000,000 Yen which translates to $144,509.00. As well as Square Enix’s stock growth from 164.20 Yen to 215.33 Yen compared to 2017.

In one of the questions from the publisher’s investor’s, it asks what the Square Enix has planned when looking towards the future for 2019. In response, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda told those asking to look towards this coming E3 for announcements that will answer their question. With high implications that a large title is expected to boost morale in sales at some time in the third quarter of this fiscal year.

For one game that could be receiving the major announcement is the Final Fantasy VII Remake. The title since its debut back in 2015 has been highly anticipated for those looking toward the game releasing on modern hardware. Until the later discovery of the complete reimagine of the 1997 game has restarted development and the headlines of the title to “launch before 2023”, fans were left to be patient as CyberConnect2 carves out the fan-favorite title for the newer platforms.

But seeing that the latest news for the title was back in 2017, the idea of the game to be ready this year doesn’t seem likely. Since the game could release as late into the early-2020s, the remake could possibly be in development for the next generation of platforms on the way.

Another possibility could be the lightly touched Avengers game from Crystal Dynamics that has been in the works since 2016. With not a lot that has been expanded on the unnamed game, there is a good chance we could see the Marvel title this coming June. Last details on the game revolved around the game being similar to The Division or Destiny as the title’s core gameplay for “The Avengers Project”.

Other IPs from Square Enix that are out the window for sure is Tomb Raider and Deus Ex. If the Avengers assumption is true, then Crystal Dynamics will be putting full focus into the Avengers as the latest Tomb Raider title, Shadow of the Tomb Raider launched this past year. And Eidos Montreal released previously that Deus Ex will be on hold until further notice following the underwhelming reception following Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

What do you think could be under Square Enix’s sleeves for their upcoming E3 Conference?
