Bokeh Game Studio Founder Keiichiro Toyama Issues First Details On Coming Project For The New Developer

In the past, Rectify Gaming has went on to entertain the possibilities of a return for the Silent Hill franchise. But over time, more and more room for that window continued to shrink until we eventually patched together a reason why the reboot or other rumored projects are most likely not coming anytime soon. However, that was only cemented following the forming of a new studio. In that, former Gravity Rush & Silent Hill developers once part of the Sony Interactive Entertainment subsidiary Japan Studio and the Siren went on to establish a new team, Bokeh Game Studio. While not issuing much information on its first project, the game as suggested from the announcement video is indicated to be another horror experience in the making. Now as part of the first creator Spotlight ‘Focus’ issued by Bokeh Game Studio, CEO & co-founder Keiichiro Toyama elaborates on some details and inspirations for what fans can expect from for the first installment. I often read comics as a form of entertainment, recently you see a trend for “death game” type of content. These works tend to add entertainment to somewhat brutal worlds. I enjoy these works and often read them. I naturally took that approach. You have these regular people driven into irrational situations. They’re on the edge emotionally, while dealing with action or drama. This influenced me and I think it will show in my next game. Toyama continues by elaborating further on how his work is portrayed to leaving the player with a more impactful impression. “One trait of my games is the setting, what city or village do we evolve in, how did these people get there, what’s their emotional state. This is how I approach games. I’ve been inspired by locations this time as well and started with that. I’m roaming through maps, trying various methods to build up the setting.” He continues, “One trigger was a trip I took in my private time. My family and I went to visit this city in Asia. It had this dynamism proper to Asian cities, keeping an exotic touch mixed with a feeling of modernity. I started to imagine a setting that kept that feeling of evolution and the energy of the people. I thought it was a good theme to include in my game.” While there is still little context to wrap around what this new game is exactly, there is one thing for certain: we will not see said game on store shelves for almost two more years. When speaking with IGN Japan, Toyama explains the horror action-adventure is expected to arrive sometime in 2023. You can read the full report by heading here. The Verge Features First Images For xCloud On iOS Devices

Since this past September, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate owners – at least those that own an Android-operated device – are able to indulge in over a hundred or so titles via the cloud with in-house xCloud service. Derived from codenamed ‘Project xCloud’, users are enabled to play the titles provided from the service at any moment and anywhere thanks to the cloud-based ecosystem that Microsoft has cultivated. However, the service only reaches so many people. That being the limited amount of reach to other regions and, of course, the withholding attributes which refrains Microsoft from releasing the service on Apple devices as well. But do not worry, it is officially coming sometime later this spring. Even more, the PC version is also underway for a nearby launch as well. And speaking of the PC version, The Verge issued first images of xCloud on desktop previously in March 2020. Now roughly a year later, the outlet is back with inaugural screenshots for the iOS version as well. More specifically, the in-browser app is what is being showcased which you can view in the image below: While through a difference of means in achieving the same outcome, Microsoft is said to be pursuing the full experience through the browser-running app alike you would find natively on other devices. So elements such as continuing recently played games and traversing through the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library will be present in this version of xCloud as well. One thing for certain is the backend for xCloud will not be able to reach 4K resolution like players on Stadia are finding. However, The Verge reports that the current reservoir for xCloud currently runs on the same servers as Xbox One S. So it is only time until that is addressed. For now, the targeted resolution output is left undetermined. On other ambitions for Microsoft with the use of xCloud leading forward, the Xbox company is aiming to work xCloud-like features for other programs as well. For one, playing demos on PC or even console will not require to download the game – instead, simply stream it via xCloud. You can read the full report by heading here. Are you planning to play xCloud on browser later this year? xCloud is available now for Android devices. Source: The Verge

What draws people to games of chance?

Games of chance have been popular for as long as humans have been around to play them, but they are more common in the digital age than at any point in history. So what is it about them that pulls in audiences time and again, and are there any deeper lessons we can learn about how our minds work from this investigation? Image Source: Pixabay Risk & reward Our brains have evolved to push us to take risks and, if our gamble pays off, to reward us with a dopamine rush that makes us feel good. This helped our ancestors to survive for millennia, and yet as modern civilization has emerged and the number of natural threats to our safety have diminished, we have started to seek our thrills in other areas. Whether playing online bingo, betting on sporting events or visiting casinos in person, we can feed our need for risk-taking in all sorts of ways through games of chance. And in many cases it is not even about the winning or losing, but rather the anticipation and excitement that arrives in the build-up to the outcome of a dice throw, coin toss or card flip that keeps us interested. Of course there are differences from person to person in terms of how heightened the risk and reward response is; one individual may find that games of chance trigger it intensely, while another may feel unmoved in the face of a big win or a major loss. If this were not the case, gambling would be a universal pastime. The relevance of randomness It is worth noting that games of chance are not just limited to gambling and casino experiences; the vast majority of modern video games also involve elements of randomness and luck, and thus share the same risk and reward mechanics that are hardwired into the way we think. The extent to which this is apparent to the player varies from title to title. In Hearthstone, for example, randomness is a huge part of how the game works, and while it can be frustrating for people who fall foul of the massive swings it can cause, it certainly makes things much more interesting and varied. Conversely games which have low levels of randomness can quickly become stale. Sometimes that randomness is merely the inclusion of other human players, creating much more unpredictability than can be achieved using AI opponents alone. Ultimately it comes down to the undeniable truth that games of chance are alluring because anything could happen, and this prevents boredom from setting in. This also explains why developers need to frequently update content in even the most seemingly luck-based games, because another thing that humans are very good at doing is adapting to novelty and quickly assimilating it as the norm. Increasing accessibility An aspect of games of chance which is easy to overlook but certainly significant in the modern era is that audiences today can more easily access everything from slot machines and lotteries to multiplayer games than ever before. Being able to play from a desktop computer, tablet, smartphone or laptop means that there are virtually no barriers to games of chance in the 21st century, meaning that there is much more of a market for casual users, in addition to those who are more dedicated. The growth of the online casino industry is evidence enough that games of chance are innately appealing to huge numbers of humans. It is simply a case of ensuring that everyone can play for fun, and avoid getting caught up in the constant chase for the excitement of winning, when losing is more likely.
