Mojang Studios Divides Coming Cliffs & Caves Update For Minecraft In Two Parts, Archeology Pushed To Next Year

Just last year, developer Mojang in celebration of more than ten years announced to be rebranding the Swedish game studio. In that, the team that conjured the $2 billion purchase from Microsoft would be going under a new alias now, Mojang Studios. The team pressed to lengthen its title as there are more in this operation outside of the singular team and Minecraft now a decade later. And with the developer now under a new face, the same can also be said for Minecraft later this year. At Minecraft Live, Mojang Studios announced that the largest surface update for the game is scheduled to take place in 2021 – the Cliffs & Caves update. The client install is said to feature new world generation to the titular mountains and caverns which define the title. But, Mojang Studios in a new update presses that the update is a bit ambitious for a singular release and will be dividing it into two. One scheduled for the addition of blocks this summer while the major world generation patch is to come later this holiday. We know this news is disappointing to many of you, but there are several reasons for this change. Firstly, we strive to deliver the most polished experience possible, and including all the Caves & Cliffs features in the summer update would have meant compromising on quality. And even though occasional bugs are a reality of game development, we want this update to be an amazing experience, not wreak havoc on your meticulously crafted worlds. Because of the magnitude of this update and the dramatic changes it brings to the Overworld as a whole, there are also significant technical challenges we need to overcome before certain parts of the update are ready to ship. Take the completely revamped world generation, which affects all the caves and mountains in Minecraft. With this feature, we are completely reshaping the Overworld, including the build height. Not only do we have to consider every effect this can have on the world but also how it will affect performance. Basically, having more stuff in the game also slows it down and we want to avoid that. Atop of the concerns for delivering as obstacles are larger than they appear to the developer, Mojang Studios also remarks on the COVID-19 pandemic that still halts work since its teams are working remotely. “Technical considerations aside, we also prioritize our team’s health. We’ve come to realize that to ship all the features in the summer we would’ve had to work very long hours; and even then, there would’ve been no guarantee that everything would be finished on time. “Lastly, working from home as we cope with the pandemic is still challenging – not just in terms of morale but also by hindering teamwork. Because our workflow is so complex and collaborative, not having the option to walk up to someone and ask for help makes everything take longer.” To lighten the mood, Mojang Studios in a recent April Fool’s gag launched Minecraft Plus. While a joke on the surface, it is a real download for fans to enjoy. Essentially, you can run the client which gives your desktop Minecraft-inspired screensavers. You can read the full report by heading here. Are you fine with the decision for the Cliffs & Caves update? Minecraft is available now for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS. WayForward Is Launching 2002’s Shantae On Nintendo Switch Next Week

Next year in 2022 will mark the two decade anniversary since the initial launch of Shantae. Currently, the titular half-genie hero just this past May shipped her fifth game, Shantae and the Seven Sirens. But while the newest game is its most relevant entry as of writing, developer WayForward appears to be refocusing on the classic 2002 Game Boy Color title. In a new announcement this past week, WayForward revealed that Shantae is making a comeback in mid April. The inaugural release will be receiving a dedicated port to the Nintendo Switch. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below: “Initially launched in 2002, Shantae is the acclaimed action-adventure-platformer that is often considered one of the most impressive Game Boy Color games ever produced,” the trailer’s description reads. “This pixel-perfect adaptation, Shantae hair-whips, dances, and transforms as she seeks out four elemental stones throughout Sequin Land to put a stop to the nefarious lady pirate, Risky Boots!” However, what makes this version of Shantae most unique is the ability to swap the different Game Boy iterations. In that, players will be given the choice to play Shantae intended for either the Game Boy Color or the Game Boy Advanced. Evidently, there is a difference in animation and sprite work that makes playing both a different experience. Are you excited to see Shantae in this new Nintendo Switch version? Shantae arrives to the Nintendo Switch on April 22, 2021.

Bungie Job Listing Reveals Emphasis For “Competitive Gaming/Esports Landscape” Towards Its New IP

For Bungie, the developer is on its way to becoming a self-published entity with multiple franchises under its belt. Estimated by 2025, the Washington game studio told to be helming another major franchise outside of the already established Destiny brand. Most recently, the development team reiterated on its focus to deliver a new franchise by the listed timeframe. Prior to that, Bungie organized a new “Incubation” sector internally to work on said project. In that, Chief Creative Officer Jonny Ebbert  and General Manager Zach Russell were to lead the new endeavor as the remainder of Bungie steered its focus on the future roadmap for Destiny 2. But now in a new discovery leaves players excited for the new, unannounced title. In a finding through a new job listing, Bungie’s next game is to focus heavily on competitive matchmaking and the like for esports. The posting asking for a ‘Incubation Multiplayer Systems Designer’ asks for the following: Are you on a mission to create games that bond players together into deeply invested communities? Do you spend your time deconstructing the latest PvP games to understand how they work? Do you analyze how teamplay dynamics are affected by everything from moment-to-moment abilities to high-level macro objectives? Are you excited to design game systems that allow for interesting strategic decisions, multiple vectors of player learning, and the depth to support hundreds of hours of gameplay? As a Multiplayer Systems Designer, you will work with a team to prototype different game ideas on the path to production. Most importantly, you will work with a fun, dedicated, and passionate cross-discipline team devoted to turning a creative dream into a new franchise at Bungie. While Bungie is recognized for its work in creating a game changer already in competitive esports with Halo for more than a decade, the developer has yet to truly tap into the scene since its debut with Destiny. But with its new property underway, it appears esports is the pinnacle. More interesting is that one of the required skills explicitly asks for “strong familiarity with global gaming markets and the competitive gaming/esports landscape.” Looking that Destiny is a major console IP currently, it should be noted that the game has yet to welcome full-fledge cross-platform play. It currently inhabits cross-generation play. But, Bungie presses that the game will be bridged between systems effectively later on in 2021. You can read the full report by heading here. Even more, the likes of Nintendo, Xbox, Take-Two Interactive, and even Konami are to be present at the virtual show. But, plans for when each of the major publishers are to present is still undetermined for the time being. Among the mix, publisher Ubisoft is the first to announce its plans for the coming online event in less than two months. In that, the firm shares a Ubisoft Forwards presentation will be taking place in the second week of June. “Get ready for Ubisoft Forward! Our digital conference goes live on Saturday June 12 at 12pm PT as part of E3 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest information about the lineup and announcements from our teams around the world.” What is more exciting is what could potentially be unveiled at the show. For starters, Assassin’s Creed is off the table for 2021: the series with its latest release, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in 2020, cements a no show as the firm pledges to offer a year gap between its projects. However, there is a chance for fan service titles like Roller Champions to be present as the release is still unknown. To elaborate further, Ubisoft previously pressed to be stepping away from the emphasis on its AAA, big budget projects as it focuses in on its free-to-play and “other premium experiences,” says Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet. Noted, there is a forecast for a new announcement in regards to Riders Republic since its launch was pushed to late 2021 earlier this year also. Most hopeful is news on a potential Splinter Cell announcement. Last year, Multiplayer.it reported on word for plans to launch the next mainline installment for the Tom Clancy series. In the past handful of days, there happened to be a revelation on the current future in regards to Bend Studio’s Days Gone. In that, the 2019 title might not be experiencing a follow-up as many of its fans would hope for. From one report handled by Bloomberg, the project was pitched to Sony Interactive Entertainment. However, the game did not get clearance to pursue a second game. While that was left vague as to why that is, Days Gone director and former Bend Studio Jeff Ross clarifies that perhaps the sales of the game did not meet the expectations of the publisher. But, while it cannot be confirmed if that is the case, Ross does go on to elaborate that the sequel was planned to incorporate in co-op experiences in a “shared world” with its players. Although given all the possibilities for the series, what is confirmed is the game’s addition to PC later this year. In a new PlayStation Blog post, it is now verified that Days Gone is to arrive next month in mid May to the platform.
