Santa Monica Studio Releases God Of War: Ragnarok First-Look Gameplay Trailer

Predating all the way back to June 2020, Sony Interactive Entertainment closed out its first PlayStation 5 Showcase revealing the next God of War game, Ragnarok. At the time, it was said to be a definitive experience unique to PlayStation 5. However, speculation continued to grow if that was true or not. When pressed, President & CEO Jim Ryan could not answer at the time of asking for more context. But, as questions were left lingering, reports began to surface that perhaps the game might be a multiplatform release across PlayStation. Even more, it could ship beyond the presumed 2021 launch window too. It wasn’t until mid 2021 that Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed the game will be arriving to PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5 that followers gained perspective on the state of the game. During the third held PlayStation 5 Showcase on Thursday, Santa Monica Studio shares an extended look at the game with a new trailer. You can watch the new footage in the video below: “While the last game built an enormous amount of trust and understanding between father and son, there is still a great deal of complexity in their interactions – especially after the revelation of Atreus’ Giant heritage and the hidden prophecy only Kratos saw,” Grace Orlady, Senior Community Manager at Santa Monica Studio shared on the story for God of War: Ragnarok. “Atreus is desperately curious. Like most young people, he wants to understand who he is more than anything. In this case, he wants to understand who he could be. The mystery of Loki’s role in the upcoming conflict is something that Atreus cannot let go of. He wants to keep his family safe, but Atreus also doesn’t want to stand by and do nothing while conflict consumes the Nine Realms. “Kratos, still bearing the knowledge of his past mistakes, wants to spare Atreus the bloody lessons he learned from his conflict with gods. He wants to keep his son safe, above all, and their confrontation with Baldur has vindicated the belief that only tragedy will come from further entanglements with the Aesir.” In terms of the scale of the new entry compared to its predecessor, God of War: Ragnarok is also said to feature multiple settings stretching across Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, and Asgard alongside featured locales of the original game when expanding the storyline for the follow-up entry.
