While 2018 does not sound to be too far away, the age of that time to now truly shines when you compare Fallout 76 from each era. With many anticipating a truly thriving world set within the Fallout universe was met with Bethesda dropping the ball on most of its promises for first multiplayer experience for the IP. But, things are changing for the best over the past couple of years. Most recently this past February, Bethesda Game Studios mapped out its plans for Fallout 76 coming this year. Looking ahead this fall will introduce the first of many Expeditions coming to the game – first being a return to The Pitt, a DLC setting from Fallout 3. Additionally, Design Director Mark Tucker explained that the team has a five-year content map laid out already for Fallout 76. PlayStation Lays Off 90 Employees Among “Global Transformation”

A report from Axios this week has indicated that PlayStation has laid off a total of 90 employees from its North American offices. Many of these jobs include retail sales and marketing positions. According to the report, these lay offs are a linked to over half of PlayStation’s sales being digital rather than physical. As a result, many of these employees, which were responsible for traveling to retail stores to ensure displays were properly set up and employees were knowledgeable on the newest sales, were laid off due to lack of necessity. According to the report, employees were informed of the lay offs late in the process, and they were unhappy with the level of assistance from Sony in finding new employment. This is unfortunately becoming a trend. More and more people will tend to lose their jobs if the necessity is not there. This can come from digital sales, to using self-checkouts at stores and more. They are businesses who have to follow the current trends of sales in order to advance their businesses. Those trends, however, are set by the consumer. The digital age is only going to advance these layoffs more rapidly, and hopefully employees will be able to transition into new roles more easily. Source

Almost a full Earth revolution ago, developer InnerSloth unveiled that PlayStation users can experience the hit title Among Us on console later that year. Additionally, the firm also pressed that the game will feature a Ratchet & Clank cosmetic unique to users on that platform. But, the same treatment was missing for Xbox’s port of the game. Prior to the PlayStation reveal, the game studio did unveil that Xbox One & Xbox Series console can expect a port of the game as well. However, the announcement failed to include an exclusive skin for Xbox users – the most suited to be Master Chief. But came and went the versions for both Xbox and PlayStation with no signs of the promised content. This week, InnerSloth did poke at a Master Chief skin finally. PlayStation’s Jim Ryan Confirms New PlayStation Plus Tiers Won’t Feature Day One Releases Like Xbox Game Pass

For the longest time, many fans from the PlayStation landscape asked when will the platform feature its own version of Xbox Game Pass. Although Microsoft’s Xbox One shipped underperforming the previous Xbox 360 in terms of sales, the firm entered the next console generation with the Netflix-like service cash cow. In the past, we heard whispers of the PlayStation company preparing a “counter” to the Xbox subscription. From Bloomberg, it was reported that ‘Spartacus’ would be PlayStation’s answer. In that, new tiers would be introduced featuring a slew of upgrade options for the service including pairing PlayStation Now & PlayStation Plus alongside featuring legacy games from prior PlayStation generations. This week, Sony Interactive Entertainment officially announced the subscription options are set to arrive this June. When speaking to gamesindustry.biz, the comparison to Xbox Game Pass will not be 1:1. Instead, President & CEO Jim Ryan clearly explained that the new payment options will not include day one releases from the PlayStation first-party studios suite. We feel like we are in a good virtuous cycle with the studios where the investment delivers success, which enables yet more investment, which delivers yet more success. We like that cycle and we think our gamers like that cycle. [In terms of] putting our own games into this service, or any of our services, upon their release… as you well know, this is not a road that we’ve gone down in the past. And it’s not a road that we’re going to go down with this new service. We feel if we were to do that with the games that we make at PlayStation Studios, that virtuous cycle will be broken. The level of investment that we need to make in our studios would not be possible, and we think the knock-on effect on the quality of the games that we make would not be something that gamers want. However, despite Ryan’s direct answer to possibly featuring first-party games for the upcoming service options, he does disclose that not everything he says will act out so early in these stages. “The way the world is changing so very quickly at the moment, nothing is forever. Who would have said even four years ago that you would see AAA PlayStation IP being published on PC? We started that last year with Horizon Zero Dawn, then Days Gone, and now God of War – a hugely polished and accomplished PC version of that game. [We’ve had] great critical success and great commercial success, and everybody has made their peace with that happening and is completely at ease with it. I look back four years and think nobody would have seen that coming. So I don’t want to cast anything in stone at this stage. All I’m talking about today is the approach we’re taking in the short term. The way our publishing model works right now, it doesn’t make any sense. But things can change very quickly in this industry, as we all know.”  For those unfamiliar with how this new service will act in comparison to Xbox Game Pass, we got you covered! Rectify Gaming has compiled a direct comparison of Xbox Game Pass to the new PlayStation Plus tiers which you can read up on by heading here. Are you surprised by the decision on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment? Source: gamesindustry.biz

Mojang Studios Confirms Recent Raytracing For Minecraft Preview Was A Mistake, Feature Now Patched Out

For the growth Minecraft has made since its inception more than a decade ago, it is not easy to question what the development team over at Mojang Studios will deliver next. This past December the Swedish game studio officially shipped the full package for The Caves & Cliffs Update bringing a new range of generation presets to the world. But, there is more on the way. Elsewhere prior during Minecraft Live, the team shared its plans to deliver a new dedicated update to the swamp biome dubbed ‘The Wild Update’ which featured new trees, a new frog mob, and more. Additionally, the annual community mob decided on the Allay which will be a wisp-like creature that brings you items and is attracted to sound blocks. This past week, users via Xbox Insiders found rayrtacing features were added to Minecraft Preview. However, the developer went on to clarify that the recent update was a mistake and stripped the implementation in a new patch. The most upsetting part of the entire ordeal is discovering that the feature for raytracing despite fragments of it being in the recent update is nowhere near planned for a full-on release anytime soon, Mojang Studios explains. Online, some users believe that the implementation for the system is being held back due to intersecting with other partnered technology, but that has yet to be verified by the developer nor Microsoft. In that, it is speculated that the previous Minecraft raytracing showcase was on Nvidia’s RTX series of graphics cards. But if Xbox or later PlayStation hardware is to utilize the feature, it would be on AMD’s components which could conflict with the earlier presentation of the visual elements before. Do you think Minecraft should implement raytracing for console?
