Report: Netflix’s Resident Evil Cans Motion For A Second Season

When it came to live-action Resident Evil, the multi-film franchise from Paul S.W. Anderson starring Milla Jovovich comes to mind. However, recently the series has taken a new turn in terms of live-action adaptations. Last fall, the series faced a reboot in theaters with Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down) directing. But, response was underwhelming to say the least for what was claimed to be a grounded adaptation of the Capcom series. Atop of that, Netflix was reported to be making its own live-action take with a television show already in order. The series would star Jade and Billie Wesker one sister gets infected with the T-Virus. It wasn’t until July that the new show officially aired on Netflix. At least from the trailer for the new adaptation, it appeared to be a very ambitious approach for the familiar property. However, response was more than unfavorable for viewers and Netflix it appears. According to Deadline, any chances for a second season has been shuttered, a new report shares. It is presumed this is to blame for the response in viewership plateauing within three weeks of release. It is to blame for being overshadowed by Stranger Things Season 4 concluding in early July, but, word of mouth did not help the show either. Resident Evil aired with 72.2 million views in its first week – ranked at NO.2 on Netflix. But, that placement only dropped to NO.3 on the service as viewership inched to 73.3 million hours in its second week. By week three, Resident Evil’s placement dropped below the top ten and its number of hours watch hardly made much improvement before entering August. In a surprise turn of events, Paramount+’s notorious Halo Television Series is being considered for a franchise. Despite the initial red flags from numerous viewers, many are still a fan of the series and the viewership for the new release gives enough fuel for executives to pursue more opportunity for the property. Paramount Chairman Confirms Ambition To Make Halo Television Series Into A Franchise Following Viewership For First Season

Rewinding back to March of this year, did you watch the Halo Television Series? At the time, anticipation for a new Halo show was through the roof following the launch of Halo Infinite the fall before. But while the game itself was beginning to grow stale, a new adaptation of Xbox’s flagship IP was just what it needed to keep fans gripped. And for the most part, that depends on who watched the show. Despite some of the larger criticisms, the show was the most-viewed show on Paramount+ upon release, Paramount itself confirmed. Atop of that, even Master Chief voice actor Steven Downes gave Pablo Schreiber’s take on Spartan-117 a thumbs up. As for the ongoing complaints towards this take on the series which Bungie initiated, showrunner Steven Kane expressed the claims that the production team simply didn’t play the games is untrue despite Variety’s reporting. All in all, Paramount is still itching to capitalize more on Halo. Prior to the release of Season One, it was confirmed a second season was already on the way. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, chairman David Nevins explained that the firm is looking in new directions to bring a franchise to Halo in entertainment. “There are a lot of different ways you can go. It is also enormously franchisable. There are so many different games. It has got so many different directions. Yes, [we are] starting to think about that as a franchise, absolutely.” He adds, “It has been a very fruitful collaboration with Microsoft. And so there are other things that we are constantly thinking about,” Nevins shared in other possible Microsoft collaborations. In terms of what other plans there are for the Halo Television Series, 343 Industries previously pressed that content for Halo Infinite is still being cooked up. According to an interview made back in April, Halo Community Director Brian Jarrard shared inspired add-ons would be coming and even the show later on to nod towards the game. A few weeks back, Microsoft ultimately decided to soft launch an Xbox Game Pass Family Plan in Ireland & Colombia. Additionally, a report surfaced which revealed that Microsoft is putting Sony Interactive Entertainment in the spotlight and for not a good reason. Sony Acquires Mobile Game Developer, Savage Game Studios

Sony announced today that they have acquired another game developer, Savage Game Studios. PlayStation gains a team of hugely talented creatives that have great experience creating popular mobile games that have been enjoyed around the globe. Here is what Mihcail Katkoff, CEO and Co-Founder of Savage Game Studios had to say about joining PlayStation Studios: “So why then,” you may be thinking to yourself, “would you join PlayStation Studios?” We made this deal because we believe that PlayStation Studios’ leadership respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they too are not afraid to take chances. All of that, plus the ability to potentially tap into PlayStation’s amazing catalog of IP and the fact that we will benefit from the kind of support that only they can provide… The harder question to answer would be “why not?” Sony is planning beyond just releasing games on both consoles and PC with this acquisition and want players to also experience games on-the-go. The mobile games that we will expect from PlayStation Studios will be from existing PlayStation and brand new IP. Savage Game Studios will be joining a newly created PlayStation Studios Mobile Division that will be creating a AAA mobile live service action game. “Those of you who enjoy mobile gaming in addition to console or PC will look forward to what they have in store. They’re already working on a new unannounced AAA mobile live service action game. It’s too early to reveal more, but I’m so excited for when they’ll be able to.” Source
