Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Producer Reveals Plans Are Not Paved For Season 2 On The Netflix Show

For Cyberpunk 2077, the original release of the IP appeared to be short-lived as the reception of the game, at least on last-generation hardware, was extremely lacking. The content showed not to be up to par as many optimization issues surfaced making the game nearly unplayable for many. But, it appears that a different notion casted over the title when its next-generation update arrived earlier this year. Not to mention the promised Studio Trigger anime on Netflix ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’, many anticipated this to be a stellar moment for fans of the medium and the franchise from CD Projekt Red. Well, many approved of the release for its first season. Additionally, the Polish game studio even released unique content from the series on Cyberpunk 2077 too at the time of its airing. In a recent interview with Famitsu, and transcribed by Video Game Chronicles, there currently is no plans for a season 2 for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. I personally would like to continue to work with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future, partly because we have received very good feedback. However, just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work, so there’s no such thing as “we are actually working on Season 2 in the background”. Satoru Honma, CD Projekt Red Japan Manager “Even if we could make more anime in the future, I don’t know if it would be Season 2 or something completely different,” he added during the interview. The news comes to be a saddened discovery as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners happens to be one of the most-anticipated and delivering shows on the platform – and that says a lot. Looking ahead for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red is preparing the first expansion for next year. Revealing Phantom Liberty, the add-on is to feature a new district in Night City with the return of Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Sliverhand in the experience. You can read the full report by heading here. Mobile Game Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Announced, Scheduled To Ship In 2023

For NetherRealm Studios, the game developer has and continues to center itself around the Mortal Kombat franchise that defined the studio. In recent years, we witnessed more on the franchise than ever before. In that, Mortal Kombat 11 shipped 2019 bringing more excitement to the IP. “It’s not a flawless victory, but Mortal Kombat 11 is a superb fighting game that’s sure to please veterans and newcomers alike,” our review for the game reads. Even more, Warner Bros. & New Line Cinema released Mortal Kombat, a film-adaptation on the series, which launched on HBO Max at the time. This later went on to become the most-watched release at the time for day-and-date movies. Additionally, Warner Bros. Animation also rolled out Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind earlier this month as well. But in a surprising reveal this past week, it was announced a dedicated Mortal Kombat mobile game titles ‘Onslaught’ is on the way for a release coming in 2023. We are pushing the boundaries of Mortal Kombat to allow players to experience the franchise in new ways, while still staying true to its core visceral nature. With Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, we reimagined Mortal Kombat into a strategic team-based collection RPG with fast-paced, group melee combat that both new and existing fans can enjoy. Ed Boon, NetherRealm Studios Chief Creative Officer “Mortal Kombat is a legendary franchise and pop culture phenomenon, and it continues to engage players and advance the fighting genre across multiple platforms,” Warner Bros. Games President David Haddad writes. “Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is a testament to why Mortal Kombat has been a top gaming franchise for over 30 years, as the NetherRealm team continues to innovate and bring new gameplay to fans.” This will not be the first time Mortal Kombat entered the mobile gaming sphere. In a previous effort, NetherRealm Studios shipped a mobile version of Mortal Kombat X previously. But, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught appears to be a new approach that many games before it – even on traditional consoles – has yet to take on. Are you excited for Mortal Kombat: Onslaught? G4 Officially Closes Roughly A Year After Its Revival

More than a decade ago, the precedent for video games on television was only on one unique place: G4. More specifically part of the titular network under X-Play, players would tune in to watch news on the industry, announcements, and reviews on the latest releases. But, like many things, the entire network was shuttered and took along with it other programs like Attack of the Show. But in 2020, it was revealed that Comcast will be reviving the network to be orchestrated through its YouTube channel. The project would be helmed by T1 & Philadelphia fusion investor Tucker Roberts. In a later reveal, G4 would be returning known faces Adam Sessler & Kevin Pereira from the original G4 a decade before. However, this dream was only short lived. In a recent report done by Deadline, it was discovered that G4 would be dissolved via a corporate email sent out to employees which surprised many working at the firm. “As you know, G4 was re-introduced last year to tap into the popularity of gaming. We invested to create the new G4 as an online and TV destination for fans to be entertained, be inspired, and connect with gaming content,” the email reads from CEO Scott Spectacor. “Over the past several months, we worked hard to generate that interest in G4, but viewership is low and the network has not achieved sustainable financial results. This is certainly not what we hoped for, and, as a result, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue G4’s operations, effective immediately. “I know this is disappointing news, and I’m disappointed, too. I want to thank you and everyone on the G4 team for the hard work and commitment to the network. Our human resources team is reaching out to you to provide you with support, discuss other opportunities that may be available, and answer any questions you may have.” Are you surprised by the shortcomings for G4 and its programs?
