Microsoft To Shutter Windows Xbox Console Companion App Cutting First-Party Support To Import Images/Videos For PC

On Xbox, one of the biggest talking points for the platform so far since the Xbox One generation is the seamless differences between both console & PC. And while now the platform ecosystem extends well beyond this now with cloud streaming, the integrity of the initial initiative still stands. Even recently, it was confirmed that Starfield – the latest Xbox exclusive release – is to be an Xbox Play Anywhere title come its release in September. As for what other elements Microsoft has done to support Xbox & PC interchangeably is the Windows Companion App. Not only that, but also the mobile app too. Altogether brings a centralized hub for users to view friends, join parties, check achievements, and even pre-load games. The app also offered a feature to import images/videos and even included editing content in a recent update too. Well, the Xbox Companion app on Windows is getting the boot. In a recent statement via Xbox Support this week, the app will be closing for good. Even worse is this will limit how users access their saved content from Xbox to save on PC. On July 28, 2023, we announced that the Xbox Console Companion app on Windows would be deprecated on August 28, 2023. If you were impacted by this and are looking for ways to continue to engage with Xbox games, services, and communities on your Windows device, the Xbox app for Windows will keep you connected to all things Xbox and gaming on your Windows device. Noted, this is not the same as the standard Xbox app on PC now. While there is the client to still do some actions as you can on the Console Companion app, the biggest takeaway is the lacking support to directly import images or videos to your computer. So come the end of August, there will be no first-party application to save and download your captures from Xbox. Thus far, the best alternative would be to look at third-party solutions. Recommended, GamerDVR is and continues to offer a suite in-browser to view images & videos as well as import. It also offers a Pro service which can mutli-download videos and even auto-upload to YouTube & Twitter. Since the founding of the website in 2014, Rectify Gaming stood as a ‘friend from the beginning,’ GamerDVR phrases. Previously, there was hope Xbox could utilize better resources for its DVR capture system with an acquisition Microsoft made at the time. In that, the Xbox firm purchased Clipchamp – a video editing firm. It was anticipated the deal would transition to an improved system on PC and later for console down the road. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Hits Xbox, PlayStation On September 1st In New Trailer

For roughly two decades, Sega has ignored the cries for more Jet Set Radio titles. In a rebellious response, Team Reptile went to its own lengths to ship its own version of the game. Announcing Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, this is a successor with a lot of the same charm and it even includes original composer Hideki Naganuma. And the game is close to release this month – at least for Nintendo Switch & PC. As for other platforms, the game has confirmed both Xbox & PlayStation are to receive respected ports in due time. Reflecting on the history of Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, the project has continued to faced continued delays as it was initial expected for a 2021 launch and ushered into 2022 after. Later on, the game was once again pushed to 2023 which we are seeing as a cemented date to launch the game. Additionally, Sega after the hiatus appears to be working on resurrecting the IP. One report disclosed a remake for the original game alongside Crazy Taxi was in development. Even more, footage from a build of the remake and the now-Persona 3 Reload was also leaked online as well. You can read the full report by heading here. Are you excited Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is close to release? Starfield might only have 50 achievements at launch

The achievement list for Starfield has been found early by a user online. Twitter account, @Starfieldbeyond posted an image which looks to be from Steam that shows Starfield will have 50 achievements at launch. As always with things like this take them with a grain of salt. It’s very possibly that Starfield will come with that many since AAA games do come around that number. Whether it’ll be 1000 Gamerscore or higher on Xbox remains to be seen. It was recently found that Starfield will be an Xbox Play Anywhere title meaning your save will seamlessly carry over to PC, Xbox and Cloud. Starfield releases September 6, 2023 for Xbox Series XlS and PC.

Hasbro hopes Microsoft can bring old Transformers games to Xbox Game Pass

UPDATE: Hasbro reached out clarifying comments made that suggest Transformers games have been lost were made in error. They apologized to Activision and regret any confusion regarding their previous comments. Here is the statement that was provided to Rectify Gaming: “To clarify, comments that suggest TRANSFORMERS games have been lost were made in error. We apologize to Activision and regret any confusion; they’ve been great partners, and we look forward to future opportunities to work together.” ORIGINAL: Hasbro wants to bring lost Transformers games to Xbox Game Pass following the Activision Blizzard acquisition. Speaking at San Diego Comic Con 2023, Hasbro said Activision is not sure what hard drives they’re on. They fear that when a company takes over another that things get lost and they hope Microsoft find the Transformers games since it’s “an easy add” to Xbox Game Pass. “Sadly, apparently Activision’s not sure what hard drives they’re on in their building. When a company eats a company that eats a company things get lost, and that’s very frustrating. Hope is that now that the deal is moving forward with Microsoft and Xbox that they’ll go through all of the archives and every hard drive to find it all, because it’s an easy Game Pass add. We want those games back up for people to have a chance to play. The company has some assets because they’ve been working on Gamer Edition, a line of toys based on its Transformers video games. They had a hard time recreating characters from the games. “Hasbro has some of the game assets, including everything from Fall of Cybertron, but it’s hit-and-miss. “For [War for Cybertron], we had to rip it ourselves, because they could not find it: they kept sending concept art instead, which we didn’t want, we need the CAD. So we booted up an old computer and ripped them all out from there. Which was a learning experience and a long weekend, because we just wanted to get it right, so that’s why we did it like that.” The following Transformers games are not listed on the Xbox store for Xbox 360 & Xbox One (Thanks TrueAchievements): Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Devastation, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, Transformers: The Game, and Transformers: War for Cybertron. Bringing some of these games back might be tough due to licensing issues related to the movie tie-ins. We’ll have to wait and found out if Microsoft will close on the Activision Blizzard deal soon. There are a lot of possibilities with this acquisition since Tony Hawk is part of Activision as well. Source: TrueAchievements & PC Games Insider
