Sony Statement Tells Investigation Is Underway On Recent Data Breach

Recently, Sony has found itself in the crosshairs of another hacker group. In the past, PlayStation has been victim time and time again to cyber security breaches and other catastrophic actions on behalf of these online parties. But this month, a new group claims to have a major cache of personal information and other heaps of data extracted from this breach. Reported by Cyber Security Connect, the group goes by Ransomed.vc which made a statement on the attack online and the dark web as well. ”We have successfully compromissed [sic] all of sony systems. We won’t ransom them! We will sell the data. Due to Sony not wanting to pay. DATA IS FOR SALE.” The group is looking for a buyer by September 28th, or promises the date will be leaked. Even more, Sony Group did make a statement on the matter, to IGN. “We are currently investigating the situation, and we have no further comment at this time.” To give this threat some perspective, Ransomed.vc claims that the recent data rip is comprised from “all of sony systems” which could be damaging for its users and Sony as well. According to Cyber Security Connect, the hacked data is rendered a small cache in comparison to its claim. With a total of just over 6,000 files from the file tree shared including a log-in sheet as well as internal documents & powerpoints for Sony Group, it will be interesting to how Sony approaches to respond to the hacker group with the little window it is given. Recently, Microsoft was in a similar window when it came to the influx of internal emails & presentations that appeared online. Much of it included details for the mid-generation Xbox Series X as well as a DualSense-like controller render as well. You can read the full report by heading here. Xbox Design Lab Adds Lunar Shift, Aqua Shift, Stellar Shift, And Cosmic Shift Options

Although Microsoft continues to ship new controllers – the latest being Astral Purple – users do have the option to make one themselves. Back in summer 2021, Xbox Design Lab made a return featuring the customization suite for Xbox official controllers now live for Xbox Series X|S. Since then, more updates for the service has gone live such as the slew of textured options for analog sticks, triggers, and backplates then. Additionally, Xbox Design Lab went on to also feature pastel color options as well as camouflage finishes as well. The update also included more reach to additional regions. Even more, players grew excited to learn the program has also extended to the Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller with its own category to customize to your exact desires. Now this week, the premium line of ‘shift’ controllers are also being welcomed to Xbox Design Lab. That includes the Lunar Shift, Aqua Shift, Stellar Shift, and the all-new Cosmic Shift as customization options when piecing together your own personalized controller. At its core, the Shift series symbolizes the essence of exploring distinct realms, as each controller has a design story tied to traversing from one dimension to another. The blue shimmer of the Aqua Shift symbolizes the sea and its rhythmic tides. The silver-gold shimmer of the Lunar Shift embodies the captivating aura of the moon. The Stellar Shift transports us to the depths of space, where the deep purple and blue shimmer mimic the mysterious themes of the galaxy. Mekias Bekalu, Xbox Accessories Product Marketing Manager “The true highlight of these new additions is the brand-new Cosmic Shift, only available through Xbox Design Lab. Beginning with the ocean and culminating in deep space, the Cosmic Shift encapsulates the endpoint of this grand journey through the universe. The white-pink shimmer is perfectly subtle, reminiscent of a star-filled nebula, providing a unique aesthetic for you to get your hands on. “No matter which shimmering top case you choose, each controller gets all the great benefits you’d expect from an Xbox Design Lab controller. You get to personalize the D-Pad, buttons, bumpers, triggers, and back case, tailoring it to your style. Elevate your customization with extras like personalized engraving, metallic triggers, or rubberized side and back grips for enhanced comfort and control.” What makes things more interesting for Xbox Design Lab is its approach outside of controllers. Yes, you read that right. In a recent report online, it appears that Microsoft could be pursuing the Xbox Design Lab route for Xbox Series X|S systems in the near future. SAG-AFTRA Majority Votes In Favor Of Video Game Industry Strike

Over the past few years, discussion of unionization within the context of the video games industry has become a pressing matter to provide a livable wage for actors & developers. With the ongoing Microsoft deal aiming its crosshairs at Activision Blizzard, the firm has illustrated itself to be a pioneer for the biggest contributor to unionization if the acquisition passes. Additionally, other Xbox-owned firms also bypassed the push back to unionization. Previously, ZeniMax Studios was met with a supermajority vote passing in favor to unionize. Even more, Sega of America also met the same outcome as well more recently as its staff also went of favor to form a union as well. Now, a blanket strike could be on the way after SAG-AFTRA’s latest vote. In that, the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) was met with a 98 percent vote in favor to strike the video game industry. As many are familiar, the Writers Guild of America West (WGA) just withheld one of its biggest battles with Hollywood which just ended this week; counting over 140 days. It’s time for the video game companies to stop playing games and get serious about reaching an agreement on this contract. The result of this vote shows our membership understands the existential nature of these negotiations, and that the time is now for these companies — which are making billions of dollars and paying their CEOs lavishly — to give our performers an agreement that keeps performing in video games as a viable career. Fran Drescher, SAG-AFTRA President ‘The strike authorization does not mean the union is calling a strike. SAG-AFTRA has been in Interactive Media Agreement negotiations with signatory video game companies (Activision Productions Inc, Blindlight LLC, Disney Character Voices Inc., Electronic Arts Productions Inc., Formosa Interactive LLC, Insomniac Games Inc., Epic Games, Take 2 Productions Inc., VoiceWorks Productions Inc., and WB Games Inc.) since October 2022,” the press release reads. “Throughout the negotiations, the companies have refused to offer acceptable terms on some of the issues most critical to our members, including wages that keep up with inflation, protections around exploitative uses of artificial intelligence, and basic safety precautions. The next bargaining session is scheduled for Sept. 26, 27 and 28, and we hope the added leverage of a successful strike authorization vote will compel the companies to make significant movement on critical issues where we are still far apart.” What do you think the outcome will be for SAG-AFTRA’s new strike on the video game industry?
