Review: Jusant

Developer – Don’t Nod Publisher – Don’t Nod Platforms – Xbox Series S|X, PS5 , PC (Reviewed) Review copy given by Developer When it comes to the world of gaming, we often find ourselves caught in the grip of big-budget, blockbuster titles that promise grandeur but sometimes fail to deliver. However, amidst the chaos of AAA games, there shines a true gem that stands out not for its grandiosity, but for its serene simplicity and compelling gameplay. Enter Jusant, a brand-new action-puzzle climbing game that takes you on a meditative journey to the top of a towering mystery. Priced at a mere $32.49 CAD ($24.99 USD), Jusant’s low cost is nothing short of a steal for what it offers. Jusant invites you to master the art of climbing, to navigate a tower brimming with secrets from a bygone civilization. At first glance, the game may not seem perfect, but its amazingly affordable price point more than makes up for any imperfections. For a fraction of the cost of big-name AAA titles charging $50-60 or more, you can embark on a unique adventure that promises hours of enjoyment. In Jusant, you’ll need to master your climbing tools and closely monitor your stamina meter to successfully ascend the ever-changing tower. As you ascend, you’ll uncover the best ways to use your tools, explore alternative paths, and gradually unveil the mysteries of this enigmatic world. The gameplay is a refreshing departure from the formulaic, fast-paced action games that often dominate the market. It encourages you to slow down, think, and savor every moment. One of the game’s most appealing features is the option to play at your own pace. As you climb higher, you’ll encounter breathtaking biomes teeming with diverse flora and fauna. The beautifully rendered landscapes are accompanied by a soothing and atmospheric soundtrack that further immerses you in this tranquil world. From the arid, windy slopes to tunnels lit by bioluminescence, every environment offers a unique and captivating experience. Adding a touch of mystery and intrigue to your climb is the enigmatic companion, Ballast. This creature guides you throughout your journey, awakening nature along your path and revealing clues that piece together the tower’s past. Ballast’s presence adds depth to the narrative and makes the journey even more engaging. The upcoming accessibility patch for Jusant, set to release at the end of November, is a testament to the remarkable dedication of the developers. Their commitment to making the game more inclusive and enjoyable for a wider range of players is nothing short of exceptional. This patch introduces a range of features that cater to players with various needs and preferences, making Jusant a more accessible and accommodating experience for everyone. The inclusion of a “No Stamina” option is a game-changer, allowing players to enjoy the game without the constraints of the stamina mechanic. This addition is a welcoming feature for those who might find managing stamina challenging or simply prefer a more relaxed approach. The “Simplified Climbing Mode” and “Jump Assistance” options streamline the gameplay further, making climbing and navigation a breeze by eliminating the need to hold down buttons for piton or rope actions and automatically grabbing holds when needed. These changes not only reduce frustration but also make the game more accessible to a wider audience. The developers’ commitment to inclusivity extends beyond gameplay mechanics with the addition of a “Colorblind Mode.” This thoughtful feature provides different color filters to enhance color rendering for individuals with difficulty perceiving certain colors, ensuring that no one is left out of the immersive experience. The dedication shown by the developers in creating this comprehensive accessibility patch is truly commendable, setting an inspiring example for the gaming industry as a whole. It’s a clear indication that they care deeply about their player community and are determined to make Jusant an enjoyable experience for everyone, regardless of their abilities or preferences. Jusant is a game that delivers an experience like no other. Its humble price point makes it accessible to a wide audience, offering a refreshing alternative to the overpriced AAA titles that often dominate the gaming market. The game’s imperfections pale in comparison to the value it provides, and its meditative, exploratory gameplay will captivate those seeking a unique gaming experience. With Jusant, you’re not just purchasing a game; you’re investing in a serene journey to the top of a tower filled with secrets and wonders. Don’t let its modest price tag fool you; Jusant is a hidden gem priced to perfection.
