Star Wars Jedi Lead Cameron Monaghan Says He’s Open To A Live-Action Portrayal, “But In The Right Context”

The greater Star Wars universe has grown immensely over the past few years. One of the most celebrated additions is the video games that connect the Lucasfilm franchise. In 2019, Respawn Entertainment did so with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The new story, another plot set between Episode III & Episode IV, introduces protagonist Cal Kestis portrayed by Cameron Monaghan (Shameless, Gotham). Monaghan went on to also reprise his role in the 2023 sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. In our review for the follow-up, we wrote: “While the game doesn’t move the genre forward meaningfully, it’s still an excellent game that I highly recommend to any Star Wars fan. It’s the next great Star Wars single-player game that many of us have been waiting for since the original one surprised all of us.” What’s more is that fans are awaiting Monaghan’s character to appear in one of the countless live-action projects at Disney. Even with the BD unit appearing on both The Book of Boba Fett & The Mandalorian, it’s a matter of time until Cal Kestis is on screen. In an interview with The Direct, Monaghan tells he’s open to the idea under the right material. “It would have to be right. By that I mean, it has to continue the story or the character in some way. I don’t want him to just kind of show up to stand around and be there,” Monaghan says. “I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself. So, it would have to make sense. But in the right context then, yeah, absolutely.” Extending where Cal Kestis could appear is as soon as next year. It is already known that Respawn Entertainment is working on a new Star Wars first-person shooter. The most recent earnings shares Electronic Arts is to ship the game in 2025. A new report tells that the game will be The Mandalorian which could bridge the two series. You can read the full report by heading here. What are you hoping to see from Cal Kestis in the future? Former Halo Developer Shares Microsoft Dismissed More Than Two Dozen Halo Spin-Off Pitches

Thus far, 2024 has shown to be a big shift for Halo as a whole. One of the biggest adjustments is Operations. Rather than the traditional, live-service, seasonal structure, 343 Industries has now transitioned to this new form of continual in-game content. As of January 20th, this move has went on to feature new additions to Halo Infinite including the Halo Wars-themed ‘Spirit of Fire’ event. Additionally, the ongoing experience is refocusing on its arena experience according to recent reports. In that, the previously rumored battle royale project developed by Certain Affinity has been completely shelved after years of being in development. Even more, findings on LinkedIn reveals development has already began on the next Halo title as well as of 2022. What surprises players even more is a new development this week. In a thread on X, former 343 Industries employee Kevin Schmitt, the once lead designer reveals that there were more than two dozen titles in mind for the series, but got shot down by leadership over the course of his time at the studio. According to his LinkedIn, Schmitt worked at the team from 2011 until 2023. From the thread that initiated Schmitt’s response revealing the subject matter, it does indicate that he was referring to at least one of the game’s being a successor to Halo 3: ODST. But even more, his post does reveal that 343 Industries did want to explore other genres and stories that did not align with what Xbox had in mind. This comes at a time that a very similar experience is climbing the popularity ladder on Steam. Recently, Sony Interactive Entertainment published Helldivers 2. The game quickly became the most-played PlayStation PC title on the platform. In a new development, Helldivers 2 went on to outpace both Starfield & Destiny 2 concurrent players on the platform.
