XDefiant has reached 11 million players since its launch

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that XDefiant has passed 11 million players since it was released on May 21, 2024. This information comes from an interview with the publisher posted with Yves where he talks about the success of the live service game. “There’s a lot of work to do, but it was able to attract 11 million players in a short time. And that number will increase with all the work done by the team to ensure Season One brings a lot more to the existing experience. It’s about making the right choices and sticking to them.” It had already been reported by Insider Gaming that XDefiant reached 10 million players within its first week. That would mean the game reached an additional 1 million players in the last few weeks. Yves said that he hopes to see XDefiant as a serious esport and that there’s no limit to the game’s future. “Well, outside of it being continually updated, with different experiences and optimized gameplay, I’d love to see it as a serious esport. But really, for a game like this, there’s no limit to its future” Our review of XDefiant scored the game a 7 out of 10 as it’s an average first-person shooter and currently lacks content and needs more originality. XDefiant is available to play on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Source: Ubisoft

EVO 2024 will have over 10K competitors breaking an Esports record

Evo 2024 is set to take place on July 19-21 and with registration officially closed on Monday, June 24, it has broken a record for the total amount of competitors at an Evo event. Last year, Evo brought in a total of 9,221 unique competitors between the games in the main lineup. This year it was announced there are a total of 10,224 players who entered in at least one of the featured games. In total, there are 16,231 total bracket entries among the 10K players who entered and this has not only broken an Evo record but an Esports record. This marks the first time a video game tournament has reached over 10,000 unique competitors. Evo 2024 will feature Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Under Night In-Birth II Sys: Celes, Mortal Kombat 1, Guilty Gear Strive, The King of Fighters XV, and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. This record was broken even without games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Melee so who knows how many competitors would’ve attended Evo if even more games were featured. Winning a tournament at Evo this year will never feel more accomplished compared to the past. Source: Evo
Street Fighter Movie is releasing on March 20, 2026

It has been announced that a new Street Fighter movie will be released on March 20, 2026. The movie is from Legendary and is co-developed and produced with Capcom, the Japanese game distributor. Legendary acquired the film and television rights to the Street Fighter series in 2023. Since the video game series launch in 1987, it has sold over 49 million units worldwide with Street Fighter 6 being the latest release. This isn’t the first Street Fighter Movie Surprisingly, this is not the first Street Fighter movie to release in theaters. In 1994, Universal came out with an adaptation that starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen, and Raul Julia. In 2009, 20th Century Fox came out with Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. In a recent Capcom shareholder meeting, it was revealed the Street Fighter 1994 movie continues to make tens of millions of yen every year. If the recent history of video game adaptations taught us anything it’s that they’re successful. We have seen the releases of Five Nights At Freddy’s, Sonic the Hedgehog, and the Super Mario Bros. Movie have been very successful at the box office. Source: Variety
