House Of The Dead Movie Now In Motion With Resident Evil Director To Take The Reins

Director Paul W. S. Anderson has remained probably the most involved when it comes to video game adaptations in Hollywood. Working on more than a handful of Resident Evil pictures in the early 2000s with Underworld star Milla Jovovich for roughly a decade, he has also done similar work with Capcom on other projects. Back in 2020, Anderson alongside Sony Pictures released Monster Hunter. Again with Jovovich starring in the picture, it was also film that follows Anderson’s approach adapting a beloved video game franchise to the silver screen. Now after almost half a decade later, Anderson is now ready to take on yet another video game IP through the Hollywood system. According to Deadline, Paul W. S. Anderson is in talks to create a live-action take on Sega’s House of the Dead. The original arcade cabinet that released in 1996 has went on to inspire other Hollywood pictures including 2003’s Dawn of the Dead & World War Z. My approach will be to reflect what this hyper-immersive, kinetic video game is, which is why Zack Snyder took these creatures and made them fast moving. This is a full-on terror ride. It’s different than what we did with Resident Evil, where there were lots of traps and puzzles and things to be figured out. House of the Dead is at heart a light rail shooter game, so it drags you straight into the middle of the action. I’m going to make a movie that mirrors that approach and plays out in real time, dragging the audience straight into the action. It’s not going to be kind of lumbered with a whole bunch of back story that might exclude people who know nothing about House of the Dead. Everyone’s going to be on the same page. Everyone’s going to get sucked straight into the action and learn about the characters and the plot, as they have 90 minutes to basically escape the most extreme haunted house you’ve ever been in. “We’re going to base the movie on House of the Dead three, and if you know the mythology that is all about family conflict, amidst the action and scares. It’s about a woman, Lisa Rogan, who’s attempting to rescue her father. And it’s also about Daniel Curien, who’s the son of the man who caused this mutant outbreak in the first place and who has to deal with the sins of the father,” Anderson added. Anderson will direct as well as write for the new video game movie. Alongside producing, Sega’s Jeremy Bolt & Toru Nakahara are to also be attached as producers also. Story Kitchen is also reported to be included with Dmitri M. Johnson (Sonic the Hedgehog), Mike Goldberg (Here Comes the Boom, Dan Jevons (Hawken) to produce. Timothy I. Stevenson (Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft) will be an executive producer. “Sega was a little skeptical about getting involved in big Hollywood productions, the idea that ‘they’re sharks, they’re going to rip us off.’ But I convinced them, and working with Paramount on Sonic changed the dynamic toward our transmedia policies and since then we’ve been actively developing a lot of productions, looking at it as an initiative to expand the whole Sega brand,” Nakahara included. Lionsgate New Effort Reveals Outlast Film Is On The Table

For years, Red Barrels has slowly perfected its formula for its Outlast franchise. In our review for Outlast II, Rectify Gaming expressed the game to be one of the most thrilling releases of that time. “Outlast II is the terrifying sequel to the 2013 title Outlast. […] Outlast II plays with you in a horrible way. Everything from the jump scares to the twisted, creepy, and unbelievable events that occur, you might wanna run away from this game.” Additionally with the recent release of The Outlast Trials delivering the same fear-inducing experiences with multiplayer coupled with it is also successfully effective. “The Outlast Trials takes its bone-chilling horror and extends it to a multiplayer aspect. The series retains its horror roots that scare you at every turn. Completing missions also makes you feel like you are improving, giving you goals to work towards.” Now with three games on its belt, a live-action film is now being entertained over at production firm Lionsgate. Roy Lee (Late Night with the Devil, Strange Darling) is said to be attached to spearhead the film adaptation. Even more, J.T. Perrty (The Burrowers) who is deeply imbedded in the storytelling for Outlast is also onboard to write the screenplay. “Red Barrels has been pushing the limits of horror in games for more than a decade, and expanding the Outlast Universe into film is an incredible opportunity to dive deeper into the characters and killers we love,” according to Petty as per Bloody Disgusting. Red Barrels is also said to be involved in the production for the Outlast film with co-founder David Chateauneuf confirmed to collaborate with Lionsgate. “As die-hard fans of horror across every medium, at Red Barrels we are great admirers of Roy Lee’s and Lionsgate’s work. Horror movies old and new have had an undeniable impact on our franchise over the years, and to now have the opportunity to work on an Outlast film with true horror legends is a dream, or should I say, nightmare, come true,” Chateauneuf added. Lee also injects: “When Outlast launched in 2012, it changed the landscape of horror gaming, setting a new standard for immersion in the genre. Its deep, emergent lore has provided a perfect foundation for creating a film that delves into the psychological and physical horrors at the core of the franchise. I’m excited to bring this unique world to life for both new viewers and the series’ dedicated fans.” Are you excited for the Outlast film? Source: Bloody Disgusting
Cult Classic Oregon Trail Being Adapted Into Live-Action Film At Apple

For more than half a century, Oregon Trail has remained one of the most recognized titles across cultures and even in academics with the title’s depiction for American Manifest Destiny of the 1800s. Even more, we’ve seen the game be translated time and time again for modern purposes. In 2016, a tabletop card game was released which retailers like Target carried the game. Additionally, the game in 2022 was refocused into a side-scrolling adventure game which arrived to most major platforms like PC and even Nintendo Switch. In that time, Rectify Gaming reflected on Oregon Trail as an experience that delivers a suite of lessons to live by. And now, executives at Apple are planning to greenlit a live-action film for the classic game. In a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the production is still in its infancy with the pitch still being fresh in Apple’s possession. The outlet does indicate that Will Speck (Blades of Glory) and Josh Gordon (Office Christmas Party) are both set to direct as well as produce for this new Oregon Trail film. More interesting is that The Hollywood Reporter does understand this featured film plans to feature a selection of musical pieces in the finished release. In connection to this new learning, it was also determined that Benj Pasek (The Greatest Showman, La La Land) alongside Justin Paul (Aladin) are both attached to produce & create original music for Oregon Trail. The two are said to be representing the Ampersand banner for the new film. Caroline Fraser (Carmen Sandiego) & Kevin K. Vafi (Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile) are to produce on behalf of HarperCollins Productions. The Lucas Bros. – Kenny & Keith Lucas (Judas and the Black Messiah) are also enlisted to pen the script for Oregon Trail as well as Max Reisman (The Millers). Details in regards to casting or a planned release for Oregon Trail has yet to be determined. Moreover, it is unsure if Apple plans to offer a theatrical release and simply feature Oregon Trail as a platform exclusive. Are you excited for Oregon Trail? Source: The Hollywood Reporter
