Niantic is reportedly in discussions to sell its video game business to Scopely

niantic scopely

Bloomberg has reported that Niantic Inc., the creator of Pokémon Go, is in discussions to sell its video game business to Scopely Inc., which is controlled by Saudi Arabia. The deal is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks says the outlet. The price being discussed for Niantic’s video-game business is around $3.5 billion, according to the outlet’s sources. Whatever the agreement comes to it will involve Pokémon Go including other mobile games. It wasn’t reported but one of the other games could be the newly released Monster Hunter Now. Bloomberg also says there is no guarantee that an agreement will be reached between Scopely and Niantic. There’s no question that Pokémon Go holds the most value in Niantic’s video-game division since it was released in 2016. However, the company had struggled to maintain success at times by having to lay off employees in 2023. Do you think this is a smart decision by Niantic?

All Main Characters In Lost Records: Bloom & Rage

lost records review

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage has officially released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC from the creators of Life is Strange. The brand-new narrative adventure game has a lot of similarities to other games DON’T NOD has made in the past but Lost Records has some twists. There are four main characters that you will get to know throughout Lost Records: Bloom and Rage including some side characters. Here are the main characters in Lost Records so far: Swann: The character everyone plays, Swann, is from Michigan and has a passion for creating memoirs with her camcorder. She will create relationships with the other three high school girls. In some cases, she may become very close to them. Kat: Kat is the young sister of a well-known bully, Dylan. She often seems to have a dark side while also wishing for her dreams to come true. Without spoiling anything, she becomes the center point of the Lost Records storyline. Nora: Nora is all about becoming a rockstar and being famous worldwide. She probably holds the best relationship with Autumn as they both have similar musical interests. As Nora got older she became a social media influencer and got into fashion design. Autumn: Autumn is probably the second-most important character in Lost Records: Bloom & Rage so far. Swann is secretly really into being more than friends with her. She’s into music, exploring, and the one trying to remember the secret they keep talking about. Dylan & Corey: Dylan is the big sister of Kat who seems to have an attitude when you first meet her. The same goes for her boyfriend, Corey. As the story goes along you’ll also realize they aren’t as bad as they seem and are just looking after Kat. Check out our review of Lost Records: Bloom & Rage Tape 1 here.

Relic Entertianment Maps Out Future Plans/Projects, Announces Earth vs Mars

Roughly a year ago, Sega of America in its effort to establish unionization roots for its employees also ended its relationship with some of its talent. As part of The Allied Employees Guild Improving SEGA (AEGIS) arrangement with the Communication Workers of America (CWA), it was revealed that Relic Entertainment has been sold off by Sega as it then pursued its own independent venture. For the developer best known for popular real-time strategy releases like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, Company of Heroes, and Age of Empires IV, the plans is not to close shop. In a recent press release, the Canadian developer has laid out a map of prospects for its future projects and intents moving forward for Relic Entertainment. You can view the three focal points for Relic Entertainment’s new initiative below: Deepening Commitment to Existing Titles: Relic will continue to provide robust support for its acclaimed titles, including Company of Heroes 3 which just announced a new DLC and a major update. Relic is committed to ongoing updates, and community engagement to ensure a thriving and long-lasting experience for players. Independent Development, creative experiences: Recognizing the power of creativity and innovation, Relic will actively pursue the development and publishing of smaller-scope, in-house games, while also continuing to develop the larger, complex strategy titles the studio is renowned for. This will allow the studio to explore new genres and gameplay experiences and continue fostering a culture of experimentation and artistic expression. Re-imagining Classics: Drawing upon its rich catalog of beloved games, Relic will explore opportunities to bring these classic titles to modern audiences. This may include re-releases, remasters, or brand-new franchise experiences that capture the spirit of the originals while appealing to a new generation of players. “Relic Entertainment has always been a studio defined by its resilience and passion for creating unforgettable gaming experiences. This new chapter marks a significant milestone for us. By embracing independence and focusing on our core strengths, we are confident in our ability to deliver innovative, high-quality games that will resonate with players around the world. The future of Relic Entertainment is bright, and we are excited to embark on this new journey,” CEO Justin Downdeswell says. Paired with the recent commitment organized by Relic Entertainment, the team is also working on a new release aimed for this summer, Earth vs Mars. “Martians have been visiting Earth for decades, abducting animals and humans and harvesting their atomic essence to create bizarre Martian-creature hybrids. This time they’re here to claim our planet,” the synopsis on Steam reads. Although aiming to ship later in 2025, Relic Entertainment does confirm it is only a PC release currently. However, reception could introduce the game to more platforms. “For launch, we are focused on releasing Earth vs Mars on Steam (PC), however based on the game’s reception, we may consider other platforms in the future.” Also, Steam Deck is not planned to face support upon release for Earth vs Mars. Phil Spencer Says Fastest Market Growth Comes From Asia With Xbox Cloud Gaming

The decisions for Xbox to explore outside of consoles remains to be a mindset that players are still unsure about. Including the actions to release more of its first-party titles multiplatform also brings unease to what the end goal will actually be for Xbox. So far, Microsoft has faced continued decline in hardware. But, its most recent earnings call does tout impressive turnout for Xbox Cloud Gaming as a result. And, this effort is to continue moving forward as Microsoft further invests in the market. Previously, we witnessed the ‘This Is An Xbox’ campaign which deems hardware available to Xbox Game Pass as an Xbox. Also as purchase libraries are becoming available for Xbox Cloud Gaming, the argument does present to be favoring consumers choice – even if its not on its own hardware. In the past, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer did press that efforts like PC Game Pass have been a strong leader in growth for Asian markets. And now with Xbox Cloud Gaming also flexing its reach, eastern regions are also performing well. Talking on the XboxEra Podcast, the best growth for cloud streaming is from Asia. You can watch the segment in the video below: “Embracing Windows and embracing cloud – it’s allowed us to grow. One of our fastest growing regions for us right now is Asia. And it’s not because we’re selling more consoles in Asia, but through cloud & PC we’re finding more users year-over-year than any other place,” Spencer answered during the podcast. “The fastest kind of platform is cloud; that’s the growing the fastest year-over-year and those are players like you were talking about […] that we were never going to catch that person with our console and so let’s find them in a way that works  and it’s better for Indiana Jones and it’s better for Xbox.” During the same discussion, Spencer did elaborate that the direction for Xbox does still favor its legacy users. While new players are playing on Xbox via cloud outside of the consoles, the firm does prioritize player libraries via cross-buy as that will remain a focal point now and further on. Watch Dogs: Legion, EA Sports F1 24, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader Coming To Xbox Game Pass In February 2025

The Xbox Game Pass business model is for sure the biggest push from Microsoft in all of its gaming division. While the platform is expanding beyond the console market, reaching more players with a subscription remains a core focus. Previously, it was reported that Xbox’s return for its releases on Game Pass does also sacrifice 80 percent of its earnings through traditional retail sales. February 2025 alone has illustrated to be an active month with the addition of Avowed this week alongside other titles including Madden NFL 25 & Kingdom Two Crowns as well. In one report from XboxEra, the original 2009 release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is expected to release on Xbox Game Pass very soon. This coincides with the game among other legacy releases being listed on the Microsoft Store not that long before. On Tuesday, the Xbox firm has shared the next roadmap of titles for Xbox Game Pass. Only offering a few this time around will still be eventful for the months ahead. You can read the full list below: Console EA Sports F1 24 [EA Play] (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) – 2/20 Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader [Xbox Series X|S] (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) – 2/20 Watch Dogs: Legion (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) – 2/25 PC EA Sports F1 24 [EA Play] (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) – 2/20 Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) – 2/20 Watch Dogs: Legion (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) – 2/25 Cloud EA Sports F1 24 [EA Play] (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) – 2/20 Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) – 2/20 Watch Dogs: Legion (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) – 2/25 “An ambitious undertaking. […] There are a lot of things to like and dislike about Watch Dogs: Legion. […] Watch Dogs: Legion isn’t the home run like we wanted, but there are enough enjoyable moments to warrant a recommendation from me,” Rectify Gaming’s review for Watch Dogs: Legion reads; scoring 8.3/10. HBO Executive Says The Last Of Us Looks To Have A Four Season Runtime

At the time in 2023, The Last of Us was an event release on HBO Max. The streamer then (now Max) face record viewership for the airing of the first episode of 4.7 million viewers – the second highest viewing for a new show. And it did not take long for HBO to green light a second season. By the end of the year, the show did receive eight Oscars for the execution of the video game adaptation.  Looking ahead, it was revealed by Neil Druckmann that three seasons are already greenlit for The Last of Us. And with there only being two games, how HBO plans to tackle the show with The Last of Us Part II between two seasons will be interesting. Additionally, Druckmann did state that a prequel game was considered at one point, but instead used as a basis for episode ‘Look for the Light’ from the first season. Further on in 2025, The Last of Us Season 2 is set to air this April. And with another season already confirmed to be on the way, the end game for The Last of Us is still uncertain as of writing. In a report from Deadline, HBO executive vice president Francesca Orsi says four season is the current plan for The Last of Us. “We don’t have a complete or final plan, but I think it’s looking like four seasons. I wouldn’t want to confirm that, but it’s looking like this season and then two more seasons after this and we’re done.” Understanding that The Last of Us Part II is a very story-rich release, at least two seasons seems appropriate. As for Season 4, it is unsure how HBO will tackle it until we understand how Season 2 ends. Similarly, showrunners for Fallout also gave a roadmap for its television series at Amazon Prime Video too. Last year, Graham Wagner & Geneva Robertson-Dworet shared at least five seasons are expected to come from the TV show. You can read the full report by heading here. Despite The Show’s Swift Ending, Halo Is Coming To Netflix In Certain Regions Next Month

Although the Halo series has been toyed with live-action adaptations in the past, a true Master Chief telling in the medium has yet to be officially executed. But in 2022 Showtime. Amblin TV, and Paramount shipped the Halo Television Series. Initially, the show released with record viewership for Paramount+ and even faced a potential universe being considered as well. However, the series did face plenty of backlash due to the interpretation of the character and the lacking amount of ties to the core games. One of the biggest gripes is Spartan-117 with the amount of screen time not wearing his helmet. Actor Pablo Schreiber did go on record to elaborate on the reasoning for this decision which did not help its case. And although a second season did air, that was where the TV show stopped. In July 2024, Paramount in a statement to Variety confirmed that the Halo Television Series will be canceled with no possibility of a third season on Paramount+. At the time, the firm did elaborate that the series could be passed to other streamers at the time. According to @uk.newonnetflix.info‬, the Halo series is to release in select regions in Europe next month. Currently, Netflix U.K. does have a listing up for the Halo Television Series with a March 1st release established for the series. The page on Bluesky does also indicate that other territories are to also be faced with this as well. What is not confirmed is if Netflix is to only carry the show or to overtake the series and pick up where Paramount ended the show initially. From the same vein of IPs, Netflix is also working on the Gears of War movie too. Although the film is still in development for almost as long as the Halo show before it being realized, there has been no update on it since being handed by Universal Pictures. Previously, Zack Snyder did share enthusiasm to mantle the director’s chair for the movie. You can read the full report by heading here. Are you optimistic about Halo on Netflix?

Again, Avowed Is The Next Xbox Title To Ship With A Steelbook And No Game Inside

Just recently, it was made very apparent the essential standing for physical releases. Despite the convenience of purchasing digital, they are no use without any live servers as pointed out by the PlayStation Network outage last weekend. However, platform holders continue to push towards intangible ownership for game licenses remains to hinder this. Especially Xbox when it is massively slimming its physical release sector dramatically. From Microsoft, the firm has continued this path of online-only purchasing for its titles such as Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga last year. However, there are games that feature physical releases without the actual disc in the box. Previously we witnessed this with Halo 5: Guardians and then this past November returned this pattern with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 as well. Now this week comes the release of Avowed. While an anticipated release, it has been pushed to the current February release date. Although using this time to patch in a 60hz update for Xbox Series X at least, the game does also fall in line with the last steelbook edition that released this past fall. Via BestBuy, the Avowed Premium Edition as well does not offer a physical disc. “Premium Edition SteelBook includes: Avowed base game, Avowed SteelBook, Living Lands map, two Premium Skin Packs, and access to Avowed Digital Artbook & Original Soundtrack,” the description reads. The title, however, points out that this edition only features “Avowed – Code in Box” and not the full game on a disc instead. Rectify Gaming did review Avowed offering a score of 8.5/10. “Avowed may not revolutionize the RPG genre, but it excels in delivering a deep, challenging, and time-intensive experience. While its mechanics feel familiar, the game’s lengthy questlines, strategic battles, and rewarding character progression ensure players remain engaged.” You can read the full piece by heading here. Are you at all surprised by this new pattern for Xbox games? Avowed is out now for Xbox Series X|S & PC.
