PowerA came ready for the holiday season with their Holiday Sweater-themed controllers and they were kind enough to send over the Mario Holiday Sweater wired controller for Nintendo Switch. We unboxed the controller as you can see on YouTube and we are here to give you our thoughts on the performance and the design of this controller.
The Mario Holiday Sweater controller is supposed to replicate the popular ugly sweater apparel used around Christmas time. The controller is patterned red and green that showcases the Mushroom and Stars from the Super Mario Bros. series and at the center of the controller is the original pixelated Mario that was remembered over 30 years ago.
Taking a closer look at the thumbstick and buttons on this controller you’ll notice that they look slightly different. Usually, PowerA designs their controllers a certain way where the buttons pop out more and the analog sticks will have a different texture than first-party controllers. Right away the sticks seem very flat and have more of a width to them which at first I didn’t think was going to be good.
After playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on my Nintendo Switch with this controller I actually didn’t mind the functionality of it. The one downfall with these PowerA products is that it’s wired which helps bring down the cost. You can purchase the Mario Holiday Sweater Wired Controller for Nintendo Switch for just $22.99 USD on the PowerA store.
If you are a fan of Christmas and Mario this would be a good option to add to your controller lineup for yourself and your guests.
