Side titles that expand on characters are always a fun take on the world you already love, Nintendo has experimented and have seen success of this with Luigi’s Mansion. But now discovered that there was on that almost could have became a reality. For this case it being Tingle from the Legend of Zelda.
Since his first appearance in Majora’s Mask, Tingle has been well known character in the franchise and later appearing in several games after hid debut. According to a recent interview with Kotaku, Tingle could have starred in his own horror title.
Nintendo Producer Kensuke Tanabe in the interview discussed the latest Dillon’s Rolling Western title, mentioning that the studio behind the game was previously working on the Tingle horror title. Tanabe stated on the topic:
“Looking back eight years ago, we were developing a horror game with Vanpool that starred Tingle as the main character,” Tanabe told Kotaku, “but that project was canceled due to a variety of reasons.”
No other details discussed on the Tingle game was mentioned in the interview of gameplay or reasons for the cancellation of the game.
For Tingle’s known persona of being a more festive and jolly character in the Zelda series, having his own horror title would spin how we already saw the character. The potential of seeing his own title makes this more interesting. Even though he has already starred in his own titles, Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland for Europe and Japan & Irodzuki Tingle no Koi no Balloon Trip exclusive to Japan.
The could’ve been title might have been the first Tingle headlined title to reach North America as the ones mentioned prior has not.
