Not too long after the recent idea that Harmonix is expected to be developing the next Rock Band, their competitors at Activision the creators of Guitar Hero are working on the next iteration of the franchise, according to a report today by Kotaku. Two sources have told Kotaku the timing of the announcement. The timing makes since for the current-generation gaming systems and it’s most likely both games will launch this holiday season.
The new Guitar Hero is currently in development for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and new guitar peripherals are already in development. Whether Activision plan to support older guitars, we don’t know. The new title will take a more realistic approach than pervious entries, with crowds and performers looking more real than animated. An Activision spokesperson commented on the todays rumour stating “We don’t comment on rumour or speculation, but have previously said, that as one of the most beloved entertainment franchises, we would only bring Guitar Hero back if we developed the right innovations to usher the franchise into the new generation of gaming.”
Rock Band 4 is expected to be announced next week at PAX East with Guitar Hero announced at E3 2015. Activision killed Guitar Hero in late 2011 with the studios, Neversoft and RedOctane who worked on it now closed. One of Activision’s west coast studios and expected to be working on the title.
