One of the biggest takeaways from 2024 is that this year would not feature some of the franchise heavy-hitters PlayStation is known for. Instead, the firm would be rolling out some of its live-service plans coming to its platform. Titles such as Helldivers 2 came as a smashing hit selling more than 12 million units in 2024 alone. However, the same cannot be said for the latter project that shipped just recently.
Of course, we’re talking about Concord. Despite the backing from Sony Interactive Entertainment and the climbing momentum of the PlayStation 5, the new hero shooter from Firewalk Studios has fallen flat right off the bat. Upon is release, the title has only amounted to less than 700 players on Steam for its all-time peak, Steam Charts revealed.
Now according to analysts online, the sales are short of what’s expected for a first-party PlayStation title. According to GameDiscover.co, the outlet indicates that sales hardly exceed 25,000 units sold. On PlayStation 5, the console only accounts for 15K whilst PC is the remaining 10K roughly.
What’s worse is how much was invested into Concord and the game was still met with this fate. According to lead character designer Jon Weisnewski, Concord was in development for at least 8 years. “The game has been in development for around 8 years and I’ve been there for almost 5 of them,” Weisnewski wrote in a post on X celebrating the game’s release.
And while the confirmation on the game’s budget is claimed to be $200 million according to those online, nothing is confidently confirmed. What is verified is that Sony Interactive Entertainment did invest at least $2 billion into its live-service business model. Divided between loosely a dozen titles roughly, it is estimated that at least $100 million was used towards Concord. You can read the full report by heading here.
