After A Decade Hiatus, Sam & Max Returns With A New VR Game ‘This Time It’s Virtual’

For fans that might remember the Sam and Max series, it certainly has been quite a while since the duo has received a new video game entry. The last being Telltale Games’ Sam and Max: The Devil’s Playhouse back in 2010, fans of the titular pair of protagonists are still awaiting for a new installment to hit current systems.

And unfortunately, the does not look to be the case, for retails systems for the most part. That is because Sam and Max will be receiving a new game uniquely for virtual reality. Dubbed ‘This Time It’s Virtual’, the player will be placed in the shoes of a new recruit for Freelance Police and you must follow Sam and Max as more hijinx unravels in the new experience.

You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:

Alike prior entries, Sam and Max are on a new set of duties to stop the rising count of evil from destroying the world. Fun fact: This Time It’s Virtual will mark the 20th video game starring the two animal protagonists. Currently, platforms supported for the new game has yet to be shared as of reporting.

Shared by IGN, the publication discloses that the new project will be featuring both David Nowlin & Dave Boat to reprise the roles of Sam and Max respectively. It is also told that series creator Steve Purcell is also involved with the new project alongside AR firm HappyGiant to work on the game design for This Time It’s Virtual.

In relation to former LucasArt properties, Tim Schaefer shared in a recent interview last month that Double Fine Productions will be working on an original game following Psychonauts 2. You can read the full report by heading here.
