It was more than a month ago that developer Relentless Games alongside publisher Amazon shipped the free-to-play action-shooter, Crucible. The title ahead of its release did grab some attention which showed to offer some potential of an enticing experience which would surely fuel more players eager to see what else is underway from the retail conglomerate. However, that did not go according to plan.

Instead, Crucible was received below average with plenty of hiccups that made the title difficult for interested users to play. But despite the unfortunate reviews that the game was given, Amazon and the development team responsible for the new project has announced to be retracting its release so more work can be put into making the game a better experience.

Starting tomorrow, Crucible will be pulled from Steam and can only be playable through a closed beta for the game. Even though the title will not be accessible for new players, current owners of the project will still be able to play and go on as usual.

A few weeks ago, I told you about the steps we were taking to change and improve Crucible in response to your feedback. That plan is still the same, but we’re taking a new step that will help us focus on providing the best possible experience for our players as we continue to make the game better. Starting tomorrow, Crucible is moving to closed beta.

Furthermore, the team explains that despite the first come, first serve approach for the game this week, users are encouraged to share their experience when playing. Either it being streaming online or capturing images and videos – that will all still be allowed for players that continue indulging in the game’s lobbies. Relentless Games also disclosed to be hosting weekly playtests with users to collect feedback on the game during this time as well.

As for the current plans already underway for Crucible, the team tells that the released roadmap will not be affected. Additionally, current progress collected will also be preserved for fans continuing to play when transitioning to closed beta as well. Relentless Games did not spare a timeframe as for when Crucible will officially return as of writing.

What are your thoughts on the decision to ship Crucible for closed beta?

Crucible will be available on PC until July 1, 2020 at 9 AM PST / 12 PM EST.
