Amazon’s New CEO Reported To Carry Through With More Commitment To Game Division

While ambitions are definitely apparent for Amazon in its video game division, its internal Amazon Game Studios has not proven to be a lasting entity in the video game industry. One large reference indicating such is the performance of Relentless Games’ Crucible: After retracting the game’s release last year, the developer ultimately decided to pull the plug on the arena shooter months after the initial decision.

However, the online retail conglomerate is still eager to pursue new endeavors as it launched the beta for its cloud gaming service Luna back in late October. Even more, the service already features its own Ubisoft Channel to give more footing to potential users looking for accessible gaming without the necessity of a physical unit.

Now a brighter future seems to lie ahead following the stepping down of Jeff Bezos as standing CEO. In a report from Bloomberg, Jason Schreier indicates that Andy Jassy who is to take the new position as Chief Executive Officer at Amazon plans to commit to video games over preceding leadership.

Some businesses take off in the first year, and others take many years. Though we haven’t consistently succeeded yet in AGS [Amazon Game Studios], I believe we will if we hang in there.

To reiterate on Luna once more, the initiative to offer gaming to a broader audience outside of retail units is a new prospect that firms like Google and even Microsoft is trying to pioneer. But as of the recent closing of Stadia Games and Entertainment this past week, there is even more leg room for Amazon Game Studios to fill that gap than initially.

As for what is ahead for Amazon Game Studios, the kick off for the video game label could very well be its coming MMO RPG, New World. The game most recently received another delay pushing the title’s release until spring 2021. You can read the full report by heading here.
