This year, Among Us officially turns five years-old. What started off as a simple endeavor to create a space-bound, finger-pointing multiplayer experience later swelled into a new genre for the industry with merchandising and plenty for developer InnerSloth to expand upon. Following the complete overflow of users during the initial spike in 2020, the developer confirmed that work on a sequel is no more as it plans to fully support the original game moving forward.
In December, InnerSloth continues to back this promise with the release of the ‘Hide n Seek’ mode that was announced this past holiday. From Variety this week, it is reported that CBS Studios is working on a new Among Us animated show. The production is said to attach Owen Davis (Regular Show, Infinity Train) as the creator & executive producer for the new series.
Other information on the new TV show also lists Titmouse (Big Mouth, Star trek: Lower Decks) as the animation studio for the Among Us project. InnerSloth staff Forest Willard, Marcus Bromander, and Carl Neisser are also said to be involved as executive producers alongside Titmouse’s Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina.
“Members of your crew have been replaced by an alien shapeshifter intent on causing confusion, sabotaging the ship, and killing everyone. Root out the ‘Impostor’ or fall victim to its murderous designs,” the synopsis for the Among Us show reads from the official logline. It is also noted that no major streaming platforms has been confirmed for the show just yet. CBS is a subsidiary of Paramount, so there is a chance we could see the series make its way to Paramount+.
As for other multiplayer titles being adapted into television series, it was previously confirmed that Obsidian Entertainment’s Grounded will also be part of that list. It was reported that Star Wars: Clone Wars writer Brett Friedman is to be involved with the coming television series. You can read the full report by heading here.
