In an age of powerhouse consoles like the Xbox Series X & PlayStation 5 alongside the growing culture surrounding high-end PC gaming, there is also a niché for unique handheld devices as well. Of course, the Nintendo Switch is one example of that. But, other upcoming devices that entertain that market like Panic’s Playdate is another reference. Previously, the publisher shared some user-created projects that utilize the hardware back in August last year.
As for other endeavors underway, the Analogue Pocket is one for those looking to revisit Nintendo GameBoy games. The handheld with its modern and sleek design is to allow players to return to beloved cartridges from Nintendo alongside Atari Lynx, NEO Geo Pocket Color, and Sega Game Gear. Pre-orders for the device went up in August with an anticipated release in for May 2nd.
But in a statement from Analogue, the device is now shelved its mid spring release for a new launch date scheduled for October later this fall.
Pocket is delayed and shipping in October 2021. The current global state of affairs continues to create supply chain challenges outside of our control. There have been sudden and severe electrical component shortages as well as logistical issues leading to a domino effect of challenges for nearly everyone in the industry.
The statement from Analogue goes on to reflect the larger concern for specific silicon across the globe. The issue is so much of a threat that 46th United States President Joe Biden remarked on the problem and is to investigate on how to satisfy the market for the respected industries affected by the setback.
