Alike many big publishers, there’s usually a larger parent company that overshadows the publisher and sometime even shares the same name. That being Annapurna Pictures for Annapurna Interacctive: however, the future does not look to be holding much left for the parent company following recent events that took place for the motion picture company.
While the American-founded studio has struct success with films like Zero Dark Thirty in 2012 and Joaquin Phoenix’s Her the following year, more recent projects have not exceeded the same expectations as previous films. The recently produced Destroyer and The Sisters Brothers were met with underwhelming reception atop of box office sales which stirred the company towards even cancelling other projects due to the recent outcomes.
In a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, the entertainment outlet has stated that Megan Ellison, who founded the Annapurna Pictures, could be facing bankruptcy derived from the results of the company’s recent projects. However, Annapurna Interactive despite the parent company’s potential demise is not planning on leaving just yet.

Which is reassuring for those who are anticipating upcoming titles from the gaming division of Annapurna with games like Nintendo Switch exclusive Sayonara Wild Hearts and 12 Minutes which was revealed just this past June at E3.
In response to the report from the Hollywood Reporter, Ellison sent a email to her staff regarding the restructuring of the company with banks, stating to be “uncommon” with business. “Restructuring deals with financial institutions is not uncommon, yet the process is usually handled without a spotlight on it. Fortunately/unfortunately, people like to write about me and my family, Ellison’s memo reads. “Regardless of whatever comes out in the press, the truth is that we are well on our continued path towards success. There will always be speculation, misinformation and personal jabs in the press – that’s part of the business.”
All in all, it is comforting to see that Annapurna Interactive is still confident to step ahead the potential bankruptcy that it’s parent company might be facing. Earlier this year Rectify Gaming did a hand-on impression of the publishers upcoming Switch title Sayonara Wild Hearts, you can read the full piece here.
