Arkane Lyon Lead Praises Creative Flexibility From Xbox Game Pass Ecosystem Following Bethesda Acquisition

While Xbox Game Pass sits to be one of the youngest initiatives on behalf of the gaming division for Microsoft, it has proven to be one of the most influential for the platform. While only in its third year – four later this summer – the monthly subscription service has already accumulated well over 18 million users. Even more, Xbox Game Pass also presents to open new opportunity for smaller game studios.

For instance, Studio Zevere responsible for the upcoming JRPG She Dreams Elsewhere shares that development for the project is to be finished with ease after its agreement with Microsoft. “Compared to [publisher negotiations], the Game Pass deal was a lot more straight-forward and simple and so much less stressful,” says team lead Davionne Gooden.

Similarly, Bethesda developer Arkane Studios also praised its support for Microsoft with the upcoming acquisition for parent company, Zenimax Media. Now, Arkane Lyon lead Dinga Bakaba explains his satisfaction being involved in the Xbox Game Pass ecosystem to push creativity of the team first and foremost.

Being able to be apart of the Xbox Gamepass ecosystem makes things a bit different for us, because we can occupy a space in that service, and we will continue to make the kind of games that we make and make them well.

If you’ve looked on social media, you’ll see that games like Preyand Dishonored 1 and 2 coming to Xbox Game Pass, a lot of people are saying that you need to play these games and have no excuse not to, so it’s been very encouraging. It’s a service that will allow us to remain creative and have the audience and build that relationship over time and that’s really exciting.

When speaking with Press Start, Bakaba explains that the recent additions of Dishonored and Prey namely pique interest for new users to experience games that might not be on their palette. Additionally, he also remarks the significance of Microsoft to remain supportive for the creative drive for its studios – a statement that Double Fine Productions also echoed previously.

As for what comes ahead for both Bethesda and Microsoft following the arranged deal, Xbox users are said to benefit greatly as per Xbox lead, Phil Spencer. “If you’re an Xbox customer, the thing I want you to know is this is about delivering great exclusive games for you that ship on platforms where Game Pass exists, and that’s our goal,” he explains.
