Not even less than a week goes by since the departure of Worldwide Studios Sony Interactive Entertainment Chairman Shawn Layden issues his departure from the company after his thirty years working under the Japanese technology firm that yet another corporate head for Sony announces to also be leaving the company as well. President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia Atsushi Morita announces to be leaving the company due to old age.
Morita has been involved within the gaming industry for roughly two decades dating back to 2001 with his work as Design Manager for Sacnoth’s Shadow Hearts: his first mention of being the President for Japan’s corporate branch dates back to 2017. He has also been involved with other projects from the region like Atlus’ Catherine and Gravity Rush 2.
Alike Layden’s abrupt departure from Sony Interactive Entertainment, there is no scheduled replacement to inherit Morita’s position following his retirement from the company. However, according to a press release from SIEJA, the company discloses that Kazuhiko Taekda will be moved to Corporate Director in result from Morita leaving.
Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki reports that the coming of this news along with the parallel stepping-down of Shawn Layden is expected for the region’s transition into the second half of the fiscal year. Clarifying that more will come of the sorts from other companies, not just Sony in the relatively near future.
Upcoming and next generation planning for the entirety of the PlayStation platform will still go as planned for Sony’s side following the retirement of Morita and Layden leaving.
