Community Article – Xbox: Past, Present & Future
Xbox: Past, Present & Future Fully written by Robert Stevens ( feel free to follow him on twitter – @captaingamepad ) As we approach 2016, I felt it was time to reflect on what has been a roller coaster period for Microsoft and the Xbox One. Each brand has its highs and lows with Xbox being no different, make no mistake there has been many lows since the system’s reveal back in 2013 but I am confident the future will have far more highs. I distinctly remember where I was when the Xbox One was unveiled for the first time, at a friends apartment, as long term fans of Xbox we gathered in front of the large screen TV in excitement, drinking our beer, eating our snacks, talking games and how much we have enjoyed spending our gaming time on the original Xbox and Xbox 360. The positivity was wonderful but it soon evaporated. Despite our knowledge of the follow on E3 to be all about the new titles coming to the system, disbelief still filled the room as the minutes past. It was a disaster of a premiere and I will never forget the look on my friends faces, anger and shock would be fitting to describe it. These are people who have spent a lot of hard earned money on Xbox and a genuine passion for it, myself included. The most telling aspect of the whole day, was that those who were behind the unveiling obviously thought it was good enough, that it would satisfy and please fans, it didn’t and I was glad fellow fans spoke up about it. I believe a fan should not only give praise but also provide constructive criticism in the hope things improve. They spoke up in droves and despite a better E3 conference weeks later, Microsoft has been paying for that day ever since. For what should of been an exciting time for Xbox and the fans, it ended up turning into chaos, pre order numbers were alarming, so called “insiders” were running riot with doomsday stories with the media hanging on to every word and the competition, Sony’s PlayStation 4, riding a wave of glory that has resulted in its dominance in the market today. Something had to give at Xbox and thankfully it has with not only a turnaround in policies and focus but a new leader who’s mindset is about what made the brand a success in the first place, gaming. The turnaround still has its lingering issues, the hardware is still lacking in certain aspects when compared to its leading competitor which has resulted in resolution being one of the dominant discussions whenever a multiplatform game is released. The markets in Europe and Asia are not responding well to the necessary changes and the mindset anomgst the more casual gamers still hasn’t left 2013. It’s a tough period but one I’m confident Phil Spencer and the team will learn and benefit from long term. It is by no means all doom and gloom though. The Xbox One has a great controller with a option to upgrade to the newly released Elite controller which in my humble opinion, is the best controller on the market and could possibly be placed into a best of all time category. The games are delivering, with the brilliance of original IPs like Sunset Overdrive and Ori & The Blind Forrest alongside established franchises such as Halo and Forza Motorsport. Xbox Live continues to evolve with the preview program monthly updates which allow members to give much needed feedback resulting in a new dashboard experience that released in November. The UI is an improvement on the previous interface but it’s clear more work is needed and when the programme resumes in Febuary 2016, it is hoped the team continue to listen and deliver on more requested features. The games keep on coming into the year ahead, fan favourite Remedy are bringing the gorgeous looking action shooter Quantum Break, Crackdown will return with promising cloud features, Gears of War 4 will no doubt be a return to form after the disappointing spin off Judgement, Halo Wars 2 will excite fans of the original, Keiji Inafune will be bringing his latest project, Recore, to Xbox and don’t forget one of the most anticipated Xbox exclusives next year, Scalebound, by Platinum Games! Also digital indie releases such as Cuphead compliment the portfolio nicely. It’s stands to be a very promising year and if it reaches its potential, it could be one of the very best Xbox has ever offered. The core fans are starting to notice the turnaround too with a much more positive outlook and enjoyable community despite the attempts of a few outspoken morons to make it look idiotic, which to be fair, lingers in every fan base. The community buzz is also being helped by the actions and willingness to engage fans by the Xbox team. Phil Spencer, Aaron Greenberg, Major Nelson and company have been terrific in their attitude to fans and their approach is to be commended. You can imagine they are bombarded with tweets and messages daily but you can see they make a conscious effort to reply and discuss topics to fans when possible and long may it continue. As for Xbox in the media, I have become increasingly disappointed in the lack of professionalism by certain individuals who proclaim themselves to be journalists. Whilst there are some thoroughly decent and intelligent people in games media, who are fair and objective whatever the brand, they are let down by those who let their own unhealthy and obnoxious leanings to the competition slip into what is supposed to be a professional medium. Are Microsoft and in particular, the Xbox brand immune from criticism? Certainly not. However, it’s approaching 2016, things have improved and I do think gamers as a whole deserve better than being served up infantile demeanours that suddenly crop up when the time they feel is right
Community Article- NeoGAF & it’s Bias, by Tim Dog
Community Article “NeoGAF & it’s Bias” NeoGAF is a gaming forum that at first glance is pretty simple, it’s easy to get to, and format is easy to navigate though. It is the #1 source for all of gaming media, IGN, Gamespot, Giantbomb, you name it, they get their info from NeoGAF. The first stories, the first breaking news, & talking points all start at NeoGAF. I cannot think of any other industry that is actually influenced by a forum in the way that the videogame industry is with NeoGAF. If you want answers, or you wanna rage at something, NeoGAF is the place to start the fire. That is great, but the problem is that it is one sided and the forum is moderated by people who have a defined hate for anything Microsoft. It is known, and sadly it is accepted. Phil Spencer, Aaron, Larry, and all the Xbox guys know it, will they admit? Nope, but they do know it, it’s pretty obvious and really NeoGAF doesn’t hide it. Bish is the head moderator of NeoGAF, he is the guy that verifies insiders like cboat, thuway, and even Dodd at the time. For example, if you say Xbox is getting a downclock on its CPU speed because of Yields on the ESRAM like Thuway LIED about, it has to get vetted and Bish is the guy who gives the go ahead. The thing here is that these “insiders” who all seemed to come out in force right before the launch of xbox and ps4, all would only have news that was negative or undermining of Xbox. The downclock thread (http://www.NeoGAF.com/forum/showthread.php?t=576869) is one where Thuway actively pushed out knowledge of a downclock, which as we all know now was a complete lie as the CPU was actually raised. The point though is that this actively went on, Bish supported Thuway, even banning Senninsage for a month for saying he had knowledge that the downclock wasn’t true. This is just one example of what goes on, lie is made up, thuway, dodd, cboat all chime in or whomever Bish wants to verify, and so be goes the anti-Microsoft bash fest. Another example was when a digital foundry report came out about PS4 having 4.5 to 5.5 gb available for gaming, this thread I was banned in because I believed in Digital Foundry finding, yet Bish and his “insiders” claimed that PS4 had 6gb and actually had the media believing Thuway over Digital Foundry (http://gamingbolt.com/ps4s-5-5-gb-for-games-developer-calls-rumour-false-other-sources-say-6-gb) its all there, even thuway and his “Lie”. Again Bish the moderated supported all of this, and actually gave Thuway his “insider” status that many clueless media outlets actually still report on. There was also the time when the Xbox UI dropped, and all of a sudden this dropped by Peter Dodd http://67.227.255.239/forum/showthread.php?t=705280. Yep Xbox Live is bouncing and OS issues, even Bish joked around said he was going to go into a “shelter”. I ask you to please read these threads, look at the hate in them, look at the false accusations that are put out. IF you are a fair person you will see there is an issue here, and it’s hate, and trying to make a product fail. NeoGAF will defend and put out fires for Sony, even to the point they will lie as we see in 6 gb thread, but they will do their best to make Microsoft look bad, ban Xbox fans for having a different opinion than theirs, and then claim “neutrality”. Pictured above is a clear connection, Adam Boyes of Sony, who reads the Gaf daily , and Head moderator Bish Timothy Lewinson both worked together, actually Adam was his boss at beefymedia and worked as recently as 2012 together. Let’s be real here, they have a friendship, they have a connection, and guess what, it carries over to Bish and his moderation of NeoGAF. So many Xbox fans can relate, as we are pretty much all banned, or the ones that are still posting on NeoGAF are afraid to say anything remotely bad about Sony, and walk on egg shells when defending Microsoft. It’s not like we know of any other mods either that are pro Microsoft, they are all anti-Microsoft, from Kagari, to y2kev. They protect Sony, call out warnings for trolling in Driveclub thread post 7 (http://www.NeoGAF.com/forum/showthread.php?t=905048) yet let Ryse get trashed beyond belief pre launch. Its really something too when its owner Tyler Malka claims neutrality in all of this, as he did when Major Nelson was nice enough to offer NeoGAF an invite to E3 because they had their access pulled in 2014. (http://www.NeoGAF.com/forum/showthread.php?t=824557). Fine that’s ok, but then in an interview Tyler Malka claims that Major Nelson was offering a bribe. Tyler answers the question ” Hey Jason. I think the publisher reps have, for the most part, wised up at this point. Back when NeoGAF was a much smaller site and it was treated in the same way that a fansite would, I’d get all sorts of offers to be flown places, to get swag, to get review copies. None of that makes any sense whatsoever to compromise the neutrality of the site over, of course, but that’s the typical tactic. The most egregious recent example of attempted bribery was Major Nelson offering to get me and the NeoGAF staff into E3 last year after the ESA decided to no longer treat us as Media. The offer was to come “under the banner of Microsoft” as, like, official Microsoft delegates. I had a good laugh at that one!” http://kotaku.com/kotaku-asks-the-guy-who-runs-NeoGAF-1697035983?hipra_discussion_redesign=off&utm_expid=66866090-52.r5txldOmRkqnbJxnyozIeA.1&utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F Ok now I want you all to stop and think right now. This alleged “bribery” event happened at E3 2014, the date of the AMA was April 2015. That’s a long time to hold this kind of negative thoughts about someone under the Microsoft banner. Do you think he might of harbored any kind of negativity against Microsoft, this smells of crap.
Exclusive Interview with HiRez President, Stewart Chisam
We at Rectify Gaming have gotten the chance to do a written interview with the one and only Stewart Chisam who is the president of HiRez Studios. Here is the Rectify Gaming interview with Stewart Chisam: Tyboy- if you can, give us a small description of HiRez Studios. Hi-Rez Studios is an independent game developer based out of Atlanta, Georgia (USA). We were founded in 2005 by our CEO Erez Goren, a successful Atlanta entrepreneur with a huge passion for games.. We are the creators of SMITE, Tribes: Ascend and Global Agenda and we really love making high-quality free-to-play multiplayer action games. Paladins is our next title in that vein. Tyboy- Can you tell the people out there what is paladins all about? Paladins is a free-to-play team-based first-person shooter in what we call a “Science Fiction Fantasy” world. In addition to the core shooter experience, Paladins also offers deep strategy and in-match character progression through decks of collectible cards. These cards amplify and augment a character’s core set of abilities in many interesting ways. Tyboy- What makes Paladins unique? In Paladins, players collect and build decks of cards which they get to draw from whenever they level up during a match. Cards affect the core shooter gameplay in many interesting ways, such as adding freezing effects to your ammunition, or granting a regeneration buff when you’re near a gameplay objective. We believe this card system will create a lot of interesting deck-building strategies, especially at the team level. It will also allow players to adapt their champion to a variety of playstyles. For example, you can play Cassie the archer as a long range sniper, a mid-range control specialist, or a short range capper, all depending on your card combinations. Overall, we hope this system will add a lot of depth to the “meta” of core shooter experience, since every match will play out with different card combinations. Outside of the deck-building mechanic, the core shooter gameplay of Paladins is unique in that it typically plays out in open battlefields (versus narrow corridors), and there is a slower time to kill than many comparable shooters. This leads to some interesting team-based strategies and synergies between different characters. Michael Boccher: How did you come up with the idea for Paladins as a first person shooter augmented by a collectible card game? It’s a new take and definitely sounds intriguing. Our very first game was a Shooter MMO called Global Agenda, which had a really fun and unique team-based PvP experience. We always loved the core team-based PvP gameplay in Global Agenda, and we honestly started the project that became Paladins in an attempt to create the “spiritual successor” of that gameplay — but fixing some of the issues we saw in Global Agenda that had limited its success. The deck building mechanic came only after we had established the core gameplay mechanics of Paladins — and evolved from our attempts to have some sort of in-match progression system that was a little more fresh and interesting. We experimented with a lot of ways to handle that and it was Erez, our CEO and Lead Designer, who is also a big Hearthstone player, that had the aha moment about incorporating a deck building mechanic. The initial description reads we will enter the battle with a mount to carry us from one fight to the next. Being a first person game, how does this work as you generally can’t see a mount from that point of view? While mounted, you switch to a 3rd person perspective. It’s really fun and works great inside of the gameplay, and allows us to have much larger and open maps. Most fps matches simply end and go back to matchmaking screen after the round. How will Paladins battles be situated if mounts take us to the next portion of the battle? Just to clear up any confusion — Paladins is an instance-based shooter, and after a match is over you do go back to a matchmaking screen, just as you are familiar. Typical matches last between 15 and 25 minutes. The mounts are used inside of a single match to get you across the map quickly so you can re-engage in a fight swiftly after a respawn, or scurry to help out a teammate in need. There are currently 7 characters listed which have a good mix between fighting types. Fernando and Grohk are up close melee with Pip having a little bit of Rocket Raccoon in him. Personally, I’ll probably play as Cassie as I’m generally more of a wizard/fight from afar ranged fighter so the bow and arrow sealed the deal for me. How many fighters do you plan on having in the game on launch and as you progress on? Also, on a personal note, please tell me I’m going to be able to use Zigs with Cassie as a weapon of some sort The initial Closed Alpha will start with 7 character classes, and we already have another 4 classes in development. We will likely add new classes to the game on a somewhat frequent basis, but we haven’t settled on the exact amount yet. When do you plan to have the beta go live for Paladins and will it be on PC only or consoles as well? With all our games, we believe in running pretty lengthy and open betas that are very open and transparent in their development process. We did that with SMITE, and we find that iterating rapidly from community feedback really helps us fine tune and improve a game. Right now, we plan to start a Closed Alpha on PC only early this Fall. We’re not ready to announce our specific plans regarding consoles yet, but Alpha players will quickly notice that the game already works quite well

Price: $29.99 US / €29.99 / £19.99 / $49.95 AU Buy 30 years, 30 games, 30 bucks, and 10.000G. These few words are enough to create the perfect definition of Rare Replay. 3 decades of Rare history packed into one epic collection. Sounds like the best deal ever, right? Well, in fact, it is. Rare Replay is a massive game collection of classic Rare titles, announced and mentioned for the first time on Xbox E3 Conference 2015 (watch full conference here) and it’s exclusively available for the Xbox One. It brings a “fan-tastic” opportunity to Microsoft’s newest generation console where you can now play some awesome old-school games. The games included in this compilation have single-player and multiplayer modes and some of them are Xbox 360 backwards compatibility games. I’ve never done a collection review before, that’s why I’ll try to keep my review focused on the “collection concept”. So, let me ask you a question… What would be the perfect game collection? We all know a good collection must have a fair amount of games at least, and taking that into account, it could be said that Rare Reply delivers; and that’s the first reason why you should buy it; 30 games of different genres, there’s plenty of variety and tons of hours to spend. 30 games is enough for Rare Replay to be a good collection, but what makes it reach perfection? Well, a great menu interface to allow quick starts and multiple saving slots for each game would be the first step (and Rare Reply delivers again). Not only that, but Rare Reply also includes a series of challenge modes called Snapshots, which I’ll talk more about later. List of Games: “Jetpac” (released in 1983, 1-2 players) – Single-screen shooter where Jetman must reassemble and fuel his rocket while fending off alien hordes. “Atic Atac” (released in 1983, 1 player) – Top-down adventure with increased replayability thanks to randomized object locations and three different character classes. “Lunar Jetman” (released in 1983, 1-2 players) – A return to the “Jetpac” side-scrolling formula, but with a scrolling, randomly generated landscape and much more to do. “Sabre Wulf” (released in 1984, 1-2 players) – Classic jungle maze game and the first appearance of explorer Sabreman, tackling dangers including the vicious ’Wulf itself. “Underwurlde” (released in 1984, 1 player) – Rare’s first true platform game. (https://twitter.com/MikeXBO) Let’s get this started! Here’s the first ever Community Review; Batman Arkham Knight (Xbox One version), written by Myles Martin (if you like what you read, be sure to follow him: https://twitter.com/ExstroGames ) Batman Arkham Knight Review {Xbox One} We all have our favorite games. If they are either RPG, MMO, or that one FPS AAA game (not naming anybody) but we can all agree that this game is purely awesome. Hello there I am, Myles Martin A.K.A. ExstroGames and today we discuss Batman Arkham Knight. I will talk about this game in 2 sections; plot, and gameplay. WARNING if you have not played the game yet I suggest you don’t read this; spoiler alert, AVOID red text. PLOT The story begins 9 months after Joker’s death in Gotham City where crime has dropped at a local diner where Scarecrow releases his new fear toxin on Halloween night. The results are horrifying as you are just a cop and you witness your nightmares tearing each other apart. Out of fear you pull out your gun and start shooting them. After that Scarecrow makes an announcement that he will release he’s toxin on the entire city and of course most of Gotham’s residents evacuate. Only Gotham’s most dangerous and bad stay behind to cause chaos. There are too many for commissioner James Gordon and Gotham’s police department to handle. So most of them are held up at the police department. You start actually playing as batman after that. When you continue into the story you find out that Scarecrow is having help from an outside source; The Arkham Knight. He has an army of militia with well armed gear and drones and has a big grudge against batman. In the same mission that you find this out you figure out where Scarecrow is producing he’s fear toxin at ACE and where he was about to release fear toxin on the entire east coast. You successfully stop the launch but with a cost. Batman gets a whiff of the gas and now joker is in your head. He torments you throughout the story trying to take over your body. More into the story Poison Ivy helps you stop the gas by preparing plants to suck the gas. The Arkham Knight has a coudburst which allows him to increase the range of the fear toxin bomb which in some point of the game he detonates and covers Gotham. You find out that the Arkham Knight is actually Jason Todd (aka the first Robin) who you thought was killed by the joker. There are more stuff to talk about but I’m running short on words so the last couple things I have to say is there are 3 endings to the game. To get different endings you must complete side quest before the “Knightfall Protocol” is initiated. There are 11 side mission villains and 14 side missions in total. GAMEPLAY Now the fighting hasn’t changed much from Arkham City except the new batsuit that you get in the earlier missions of the game. With this new batsuit you get a new type of takedown called the “fear takedown”. To use this you must silent takedown one or two thugs or militia. Next you must be silent and move towards your next victim, when you get close you press that x button on your controller and you can take down more than three of those pesky thugs (if you upgrade your skill tree you can take down five at once). Now talking about the skill tree there are six different skill sets that you can upgrade. Number one is combat. These skills can allow you to get more finishers and helps you fight more easily and quickly. Next is gadget tech. These set of skills upgrades your tech like the explosive gel and the disruptor. And if you want to get some of the riddler’s trophies your going to need to upgrade some stuff. Third on our list is gadget skills. If you upgrade this tree your gadgets can get slightly new features like using your batarangs in mid-air. Fourth is the batsuit which can help you drastically help you in combat and in movement such a gliding. Fifth is the batmobile and yes we will talk about that but be patient. Upgrading your batmobile can help you take out drones more easier and faster and helps improve your movement. Last but not least the batmobile weapons. Upgrading this lovely tree can get you better weapons…yeah just better weapons to destroy your enemies. Not to talk about the batmobile itself. All I can say is it has changed how the batman world works. You use the batmobile a lot during the missions (main and side missions) and you must definitely will need to find riddler trophies. There are two guns; the machine gun with a crowd suppressor and a 60mm cannon to take out the drones. VERDICT I loved this game that’s why I didn’t say anything bad about it…now to think about it I really didn’t express my opinions on this article, but that doesn’t matter. What does matter is that everyone has their own opinions about this game and they can discuss it as part of their social discussions with friends and family. I am just here to write about a game that I like. Now I’m just saying but this game is AWESOME! YOU DRIVE THE FRICKEN BATMOBILE! Ahem…sorry for that got a little excited…so yeah I hope I didn’t waste your time reading this and I hoped you learned something about this game. Score 9/10 Stay tuned for more reviews soon! 😉

The Swindle coming to consoles and PC soon
The Swindle sneaks and hacks its way on to consoles from July 28th OFFICIAL PRESS STATEMENT THURSDAY 25TH June , 2015 – London, United Kingdom Size Five Games and Curve Digital are excited to announce that upcoming Steampunk stealth game The Swindle will be making its way on to consoles from July 28th. To celebrate this announcement, Dan Marshall – developer and owner of Size Five Games – has unveiled five special ‘director’s cut’ images in which new gameplay details are revealed. The Swindle is a platforming, action and stealth game set in a Victorian Steampunk world. All the levels are procedurally generated and it is the player’s job, as a master thief, to break into buildings, steal cash, hack systems and get out. Players must start small by robbing from the slums and upgrade their skills and abilities until they can pull off the ultimate heist in Scotland Yard. Developer and owner of Size Five Games Dan Marshall says: “The Swindle is the kind of game that I always wanted to play; one minute you’re sneaking past robot security guards to grab a load of loot and the next you’re being chased by police choppers and drones, desperately trying to avoid capture and an awkward-and-embarrassing death. Procedurally generated adventures are all the rage these days – but there’s nothing with stakes quite as high as The Swindle.” Managing director of Curve Digital, Jason Perkins, comments: “We were seduced by The Swindle the moment we first encountered it – so it has been brilliant to play a part in the game leaping onto consoles. We’re really looking forward to seeing how players’ heists go down.” A special live stream showing new gameplay mechanics and environments from the game will be on later today from 18:30 BST on our Twitch TV channel : www.twitch.tv/CurveDigital The Swindle will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and Steam on July 28th, on Xbox One on July 31st and Wii U shortly after. ‘Director’s cut’ screenshots reveal brand new environments, characters, gadgets and enemies. For more on The Swindle, stay tuned to RCG!
