Back 4 Blood To Hold Open Beta In August, Early Access Kicks Off Next Week

While the drought for a new zombie game to fill the shoes of the experience that is Valve’s Left 4 Dead, the wait took more than a decade until developer Turtle Rock Studios announced Back 4 Blood. Responsible for the original Left 4 Dead titles, the game studio is shaping up a successor that will stand to be a definitive experience just off the brink of the next-generation hardware.

Previously, Turtle Rock Studios disclosed that it will be ushering the Back 4 Blood release date to mid October to better prepare the state of the game come launch. It was originally scheduled to ship in June of this year. Atop of that, the game studio also went on to emphasize public playtesting is to be welcomed at a later date leading up to the game’s release at some point.

On Wednesday, Turtle Rock Studios announced the open beta for Back 4 Blood to take place in August. Even more, early access commences a week before the open playtest. You can watch the new trailer for the game in the video below:

“Sign-up and register for a chance to participate in the Early Access portion of the Open Beta. Pre-ordering guarantees entry into Early Access,” Turtle Rock Studios explains in its FAQ for the open beta. Players can also register at for a chance to get into the Early Access portion, but please note, registration does not guarantee Early Access entry as codes are limited.”

Early Access for the open beta goes live from August 5 at 12:00 PM PST / 3:00 PM EST – August 9 12:00 PM PST / 3:00 PM EST. The open beta kicks off for all users on August 12 at 00 PM PST / 3:00 PM EST – August 16 12:00 PM PST / 3:00 PM EST.

Delving deeper into the FAQ also discloses that certain elements of the open beta will still be unique to the playetst. One thing, player progressions will not carry over to the full game this fall. Those that testes the previously held alpha test will gain access to the open beta. For console users, neither Xbox Live Gold nor PlayStation Plus.

In June, it was reported that Turtle Rock Studios leaked the addition of Back 4 Blood to hit Xbox Game Pass when it arrives. It was not until the approaching Xbox-Bethesda E3 Showcase that Microsoft confirmed the speculation for the game. You can read the full report by heading here.
