After nearly two years since the initial leak for a new, and very ambitious Harry Potter RPG, developer Avalanche Software finally pulled the invisibility cloak for the project. During the second PlayStation 5 showcase that took place in September, the developer alongside Portkey Games announced Hogwarts Legacy.
Although set in the universe of the J.K. Rowling book series, the new project takes place nearly two centuries before the events of The Boy Who Lived. Regardless, the reveal trailer showed in-game renders for the new engine used for the game and proves to offer a very lively and thriving Hogwarts from the few glimpses of the school grounds and surrounding territories as well.
Scheduled for 2021, the release window was an even bigger shocker. However, that timeframe now looks to be overly ambitious – even for Avalanche Software. In a new post on Twitter, the team shares that a new release set for 2022 is required just only two weeks into the new year.

“Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022,” the developer pens in the letterhead. “Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us, so we are giving the game the time it needs.”
Gathered from the new launch window for Hogwarts Legacy just one year later than initially scheduled, there is room to suggest the game could be launching in early 2022. Given that the game would hit store shelves this year still suggested we would see a year-end launch. But now, there is a good chance the project now lands sometime in Q421 or even Q122 at the earliest.
Are you fine waiting an additional year for Hogwarts Legacy?
Hogwarts Legacy is listed to release for PlayStation 5 sometime in 2022.
