Bethesda Offers A Brief Update On The Elder Scrolls VI, Now In A Playable State

For Bethesda, one of its biggest promises is still awaiting its release. Back in 2018, the firm announced it’s officially working on The Elder Scrolls VI. Although there was no gameplay of the game at the time, it was expected to ship within the next couple of years. But nearly 6 years later there is still no sign of the game. Back in 2021, it was confirmed that the title was still in its concept phase with no evident advancements on game to ship.

In a separate follow-up, Bethesda presses that The Elder Scrolls VI is projected to ship years after Starfield. Noted, the new IP just released this past September – so there are still a couple more years to go. Elsewhere, Todd Howard even pressed that The Elder Scrolls VI could be his last major project before retirement seeing the clock ticking last summer.

To celebrate 30 years since the release of The Elder Scrolls, Bethesda did so with an update & thank you letter to fans. On X, it elaborated on an update for The Elder Scrolls VI which does indicate the team is at least playing a build of the title internally.

“Last but not least, yes, we are in development on the next chapter – The Elder Scrolls 6. Even now, returning to Tamriel and playing early builds has us filled with the same joy, excitement, and promise of adventure,” the firm wrote in the letterhead. “Thank you again for supporting us all these decades, and all you have brought to the games, making them your own. We couldn’t be more excited to continue it and celebrate the next 30 years.”

According to a previous development, the game could be available as soon as 2026. In a FTC hearing during the case against Microsoft, a lawyer did reveal that 2026 is the projected release window for The Elder Scrolls Vi. You can read the full report by heading here.
