For those that can surely remember from a THQ Nordic announcement back in 2017, those able to reflect the announcement for Biomutant are still waiting for the game to arrive. However, this not too long from arriving as the publisher alongside developer Experiment 101 announced the title to ship this week.
Of course, the previously-aimed last-generation title arriving following the arrival of the latest Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 is anticipated to welcome in a dedicated version both consoles. But, there appears to be a problem in terms of supporting the PlayStation 5. While it will arrive, “technical reasons” withhold Sony’s device from offering a native 4K resolution – leaving the team to upscale from 1080p.
On Twitter this past Thursday, THQ Nordic made a statement on the matters when on fan inquired on what state Biomutant will release under the approaching week.
Due to technical reasons, we deactivated native 4k on PS5 for the release version of the game.

Biomutant is currently running at native 1080p upscaled to 4k on PS5.
“With this build, the option for native 4K on PlayStation 5 has been deactivated due to stability – and performance-related reasons. What you see here is 1080p @60fps. It will remain deactivated for the release version too,” the disclaimer in the PlayStation 5 gameplay video reads. “It will not have a native current-gen experience. More information on that will follow soon.”
In the past, developers have digressed problems working on PlayStation hardware – but not to this degree. Recently, developer PUBG Corp elaborated on the growing obstacles developing 120 frames per second performance on PlayStation 5. In that, the pursuit takes more resources than the results found over on Microsoft’s console.
Elsewhere, there appears to be a trend with cross-generation issues as well. While games are accessible and save progress carries over from PlayStation 4, sometime enhancements for PlayStation 5 remains behind a paywall. For the sake of Wreckfest, another THQ Nordic-published game, the title receives a free upgrade on Xbox Series X|S, but asks for an additional payment on Sony’s system.
