As many could gather from this past August, developer Blizzard Entertainment despite the inflicting COVID-19 epidemic is managing to bring the next major expansion for World of Warcraft to its fans just in time for the Halloween season. As Shadowlands takes players beyond the realm of the dead for those who’ve fallen in the universe’s lore, the add-on could not arrive at a better time.
Howbeit, despite what looked to be a reassuring and concrete date for the video game studio is later learned to be a little overly ambitious – even for Blizzard Entertainment. That being due to the latest letterhead the firm shared recently. In that, the developer spares that more time will be needed to collect itself in efforts for the release of Shadowlands. So more polishing and buffing out the rougher edges is due before launching the expansion.
You can view the full statement in the tweet below:
“I wanted to let you know that we are delaying the release of Shadowlands to later this year–and while we’re still in the process of determining the date to launch, we felt it was important to let you know about this change as soon as we could. This was an incredibly difficult decision for the team, as we’re eager to get the expansion in your hands as you are to play it–but ultimately, we feel it’s the right decision for the game–and for our players.”
Expanding more on what needed the extra time, Executive Producer John Hight discloses that the emphasis is aimed towards the endgame portion of Shadowlands – suggesting that the base experience is at least prepared for release. “As everything started coming together and we’ve been listening and building upon your feedback, it’s become clear that we need a little more time for additional polish, and to balance and iterate on some interlocking pieces–particularly related to endgame.
Shadowlands is one of the most intricate expansions we’ve created yet, and while we’ve made great progress, the challenge of tuning the endgame was compounded by the team having to work from home.” In anticipation for Shadowlands, the firm shares that a pre-patch client will be sent out on October 13 to prepare fans for the new expansion for whenever the new release date is shared.
Are you fine waiting a little bit longer until Shadowlands officially arrives?
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is listed to release in late 2020 for PC.
