Cutting well over the two month mark since Microsoft’s Xbox 20/20 presentation back in May, there were surely some enticing reveals that took place during the livestreamed showcase. In that, one unique property on its own comes from developer Bloober Team. The team was already busy with the reworking of Observser System Redux which reiterates on the 2017 title for next-generation systems.

However, the studio at the time unveiled a new project is underway exclusively for the Xbox Series X – The Medium. Following the murder of a child, you must search an abandoned hotel in search of answers for questions that have haunted you since the incident. Even more, the Polish team shared that Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka will be involved with the OST for The Medium.

During the presentation, Microsoft emphasized the implementation of cross-gen support for projects via Smart Delivery. But, The Medium did not fall in that category oddly enough. But in a new interview with GameSpot, the developer discloses the reasoning for the decision to take the next-gen exclusive approach for the title.

Thanks to the power of Xbox Series X, we can develop the game the way we have always envisioned it. This is truly a great piece of hardware, one that enables us to realize our vision of the game without compromises. I can’t wait for the fans to see what the console is really capable of.

The marketing team will kill me if I say too much too soon, but we’re using the extra power to really push what’s possible gameplay-wise on the next generation.

Jacek Zieba, Bloober Team Producer

In addition to the statement, the studio also spared that there are no plans to expand the release of the game to any other platforms outside of Xbox Series X and PC. “We don’t have any porting plans for current-gen consoles, so the Xbox Series X will offer the experience we always meant for the game.”

In a recent interview held by GameStar, the German publication spoke with Phil Spencer on the matters of projects coming to the platform in the future. While there is a new console underway, the firm wanted to address that despite its ambitions to release unique properties in its first year or two of its lifecycle – teams will not be obligated to follow that guideline.

Instead, if studios are eager to work on a new project where its ambitions are aimed for the power of the Xbox Series X, developers can do so without having to worry about Microsoft breathing over their shoulder. You can read the full report by heading here.
