Polish-based developer Bloober Team in the past has set a standard for interactive horror experiences with titles like Layers of Fear and Observer. But, the team has went on to reach higher platforms with its effort in adapting Blair Witch to the medium. The game was met with average reception, but got its foot in the door with Microsoft. Of course, with marketing for Blair Witch, there was more that could come from this.

In May 2020, the Xbox firm revealed a new Bloober Team game project which it was publishing, The Medium. From the reveal alone, Silent Hill elements instantly revealed itself with music composed by Akira Yamaoka present as well. The game went on to release for Xbox Series X|S and a later PlayStation 5 version arrived then too.

According to the game studio this week, The Medium is being adapted into a television series. Platige Image (Privisa, Another Day of Life) is to sign on to co-produce the new project with Bloober Team.

Both the film industry and the video game industry are close to my heart and I am very happy that there is finally an opportunity to combine them both. My joy is even greater because two Polish companies are involved in the production and a series will be created on the basis of our game. The story we told in the game has been appreciated by the players, and now more people will be able to hear about it. Recent hits of streaming platforms, which were created on the basis of games such as “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” or “Arcane” showed that this is the perfect time for such productions.

Participation in the creative supervision of such an important figure in Polish cinematography as Tomasz Bagiński proves that we want to create something truly amazing. The whole team working on the concept of the series felt that they were working on something special, we hope that this enthusiasm will be visible in the quality of the series.

Piotr Babieno, Bloober Team President

Tomasz Bagiński (The Cathedra) is said to be supervising The Medium show. Bagiński previously worked as an executive producer for both The Witcher & Direction of the Night alongside directed the upcoming Knights of the Zodiac film. “Combining the world of film and games is a huge, but at the same time exciting challenge. I am glad that I have the pleasure of working on such a project as The Medium with such a fantastically talented team.” Bagiński  shares in a statement.

“The combination of the talents of Tomasz Bagiński and Piotr Babieno is the best thing that could happen to fans of gaming and film. The creativity of the Krakow game producer and our experience gained during the creation of dozens of international productions are a guarantee of success. We are very much looking forward to this cooperation, because its effect will be a series that has a chance – just like “The Witcher” – to attract viewers from all over the world,” Platige Image president Karol Żbikowski adds.
