Gearbox Software announced during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct in April that Borderlands 4 would be launching on the Switch 2. However, they never specified the release date for the game on the newest console. Gearbox announced Borderlands 4 will be releasing on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on September 12, 2025.
While the release date for Borderlands 4 on Switch 2 remains unknown, Nintendo had a Creators Voice video featuring Gearbox. Quoting the video on X (Twitter), the official Borderlands account stated that “Borderlands 4 launches in 2025 on Nintendo Switch 2.”

Gearbox President, Randy Pitchford, stated in the video that “Switch 2 is very powerful. It is an incredible machine in a very tight form factor, and we love being on the bleeding edge with our graphics. The Switch 2 makes all that possible.”
It seems pretty clear that Borderlands 4 is going to have a later release on the Switch 2 than the other platforms. Nintendo and Gearbox have been secretive with that information, but it’s still coming in 2025.
Gearbox Software has been a known supporter of the Nintendo Switch platform. We have seen Borderlands Legendary Collection, Borderlands 3, Borderlands Collection: Pandora’s Box, and Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition release on the Switch.
The Nintendo Switch 2 releases on June 5, 2025, less than a month away. The console has sold out around North America, Japan, Europe, and other regions. It’s going to have strong third-party support right away with Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and Street Fighter 6.
