When exploring potential film opportunities, it felt like a decision from god when it was announced that Eli Roth (Hostel) would take on the Pandora wasteland for the upcoming Borderlands film adaptation. Following the announcement attached Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Edgar Ramizer, Janina Gavankar alongside Ariana Greenblatt, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Florian Munteanu as well.
While the announcement took place ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic with filming in Budapest to follow shortly after, the actor portraying Dr. Tannis shared multiple images of the cast. Despite the silhouette for each being elusive, it did show the amount of detail these costumes will bring for when the film officially releases. At the latest Gearbox Showcase at PAX East 2022, post-production was already active.
However, a new report from Deadline reveals new information on the production. In that, director Eli Roth has now pursued a new project amid the wait for the Borderlands film. Roth is now actively working on a film realization of a mock trailer from the collaborative Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez Grindhouse series, Thanksgiving.
To stand in for Roth, Deadpool director Tim Miller will helm the role as multiple weeks of reshoots are to commence for the Borderlands movie. Deadline injects that Roth has not been fired from the role despite the current events. The outlet words the production as “amicable” with Miller as the new overseer follow test screenings for the film late last year.
As for other recent news for Borderlands, the series did recently ship a new game this past fall. After the long wait for a new telling from Tales of the Borderlands, 2K tackles the story-focused formula with New Tales from the Borderlands. You can read the full report by heading here.
