As many can gather from this past week, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II launched. The newest entry in the series stands as a sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which many believes to be the catalyst for this age of entries for the property. Prior to its release, this game already stood out from the prior with the return of Special Ops.
Additionally, the game would go on to feature the most impressive beta session for the franchise. Compared to prior hostings in the past, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II went on to be the most largest beta for any Call of Duty title. And plans in post-launch are already underway. In a report from Insider Gaming, nine new game modes are planned to hit the game very soon.
In a new announcement from the official Call of Duty Twitter page, it is revealed that biggest launch for Call of Duty. This milestone was previously held by Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War when it was one of the fastest-selling releases back in 2020.
Not only that, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II went on to also be the most successful release for the franchise on PlayStation as well according to a separate tweet. “Congratulations to Infinity Ward and Activision on the biggest PlayStation Store launch EVER for a Call of Duty game (including preorders and day one sales),” the post reads.
As for where the game is heading now, Warzone 2.0 is headed to release next month in December. However, the battle royale could face some scrutiny as this new implementation whilst featuring cross-buy between mobile and Modern Warfare II is not supported for the original Call of Duty: Warzone.
